Isn't it just a sad state of affairs that it need to even be pointed out that the current legislations in North Carolina are infringing civil rights for the LGBT?

Asked by NerdyKeith (5489points) May 4th, 2016

The North Carolina law limiting protections to LGBT people violates federal civil rights protections and can’t be enforced, The U.S. Justice Department said Wednesday.

The entire world is in a sad state of affairs, nothing new, sadly.
Something and someone is being violated every minute.

I’d rather look at it as a sign of progress that a bill like this has generated such controversy. I don’t think this would have been the case not too long ago.

Civil rights are fought for here – not given.

Hopefully losing $861 million in federal school funding is enough of a kick in the nuts for McCrory, but I’ve learned not to underestimate his stupidity.

It is sad, but it’s also exasperating that they just won’t catch on that it’s over. It’s like an endless embrace of the “lost cause”. I mean when even the business community and rabid corporations can see reality for what it is, why dedicate your existence to deliberately hunkering down on the wrong side of history?

I agree mostly with @DoNotKnowMuch – the various fights in Mississippi, North Carolina, and other states are testament to the huge progress made in the last 25 years. I take the positive view here—look at the LGBTQ population in 2016 compared with their rights in 1976—there is no comparison at all.

The North Carolinas of the world are the dregs… but eventually they’ll be cleaned up too.

Having said that, it’s truly sad that so many states in the southern US live down to their stereotypes.

Governor McCrory and the state’s congress do not care, in third grade their pastor told them, “People with different lifestyles need to be punished”.

The punishment will come when the Federal $$ dry up for the state of North Carolina !
