Flatulence in Film - when was the first?
I always thought that Blazing Saddles was the first film to feature flatulence as a plot device, but last night I ran across an old Abbott and Costello film where gurgling stomachs (and similar sounds) played a role.
Sure, there have been many films since (A Million Ways to Die in the West being a recent example) that feature flatulence. But how far back does the genre go?

I remember being 13 or so when “Blazing Saddles” was released. A friends dad took us and he was quite proper, the fart scene was very embarrassing for all of us. lol

Shakespeare, A Comedy of Errors –
Dromio says:
A man may break a word with you, sir, and words are but wind
Aye, and break it in your face, so he break it not behind.
The earliest movie that I’ve seen with a fart scene is Fellini’s Satyricon, which was released in 1970.
@Brian1946 – forgot that one – I saw it during college, but not since.
I would guess The Private Life Of Henry VIII Made in 1933, it is only three years into the sound era.
I remember King Henry pausing in the hall, before entering a woman’s bed chamber, shifting his legs, and you can hear him pass gas.
