Suggestion: Could Fluther have a poll feature?

Asked by NerdyKeith (5489points) May 11th, 2016

So that we can ask poll type questions. Ideally it would need to display a bar chart with the results in %.

I’ve seen this implemented on some very basic forums and just thought I’d suggest it.

Fluther has always discouraged poll questions.

It’s funny, because we begged for a poll feature on Answerbag for years. The day they gave it to us was the day they changed everything and most of us left.

I don’t ask for polls anymore.

I don’t think we want to devolve to just polls.

No polls please.

I think that a poll would take away from discussion. Things are not often black and white; “agree” or “disagree.” It is more mentally stimulating to gather someone’s opinion from reading their well-thought out post than it is to just look and see that ”@dxs agrees with this statement.”

I have like 50 poll questions I’d like to ask. Yes please. In past forums I was active in they yielded some productive discussions.

One could always link to this for the actual poll, and encourage poll-related discussion.

@ARE_you_kidding_me Ok, so far its just myself and you that support the idea of a poll features. Lets see who what the other members have to say (if they answer).

Personally I don’t agree that it would take away from a debate (as some have argued). As it would be in addition to a debate.

Lets say I was to post a poll for “Who would win in a war between vampires vs zombies.”

60% of you vote for vampires and 40% vote for zombies. But you’d still be arguing your point to why you voted for the zombies or the vampires. Maybe someone might say that the vampires are faster and more intelligent. Someone else might say that the zombies don’t have the same concept of pain and are therefore more of a resilient enemy and thus more ruthless.

So it wouldn’t be a black and white situation of one agreeing with either option A or option B and that being the end of it. You’d still be encouraged to explain the reason for your poll vote.
