I would normally say toilet or loo in less formal situations. I would say bathroom here, but only because of the US dominance.
And very good to see you @zenzen. It’s been a long time between drinks. I hope you are well.
When I was a child we’d use the English equivalent to washroom or toilet, nowadays the kids are saying “I need to relieve myself.”
In my house, “the bathroom”. If in a public place, “the washroom” or “les toilettes”.
Mais oui! Ici, on parle français.
Well, at home I just say; “I gotta pee”.
Bathroom
Ladies room
Men’s room
Sometimes I say facilities, but rarely. That would only be around military people.
Everyone I know, including myself, says “bathroom”, whether or not it’s in public or in private.
(Good to see you around!)
“Bathroom.” Less often, “Ladies’ Room” or “Restroom.”
If I am telling someone what I’m doing, I say “I have to use the bathroom.” If I am in a restaurant, hotel lobby or other public place, I’ll ask to “use the ladies’ room” or “the restroom.”
The restroom.
I used to call it the bathroom, until I used that term for the privy at work, and several co-workers laughed and pointed out that it didn’t have a bathtub.
If at home I refer to it as bathroom. Otherwise I’d say washroom.
@zenzen Hiii * waves * remember me? :P
I should say @zenzen, I call the room where the bath/shower is the bathroom. The room with the toilet in it is the toilet or loo (but in my house, there is a toilet in the bathrooms).
In less enlightened company the bog or more rarely crapper. Crappr is a reference to Thomas Crapper, a plumber who helped to popularise the flush toilet in Victorian England not as many believe its inventor.
Washroom. I called it the bathroom until college when I adopted the Canadian term.
“The Gents’”. Of course, these days I could also say “the Ladies’”.
And I second the welcome back.
At my house and those of close friends – The bathroom
At restaurants and other public venues – Restroom or ladies/men’s roams
And if the venue and company are appropriate – The john
In some company one could say that he’s got to “see a man about a horse”, or “drop the kids off at the pool” or “pinch a loaf”.
I would ask in a restaurant for ‘the ladies’. At home I would say I’m going to the loo. With other people I would say toilet or loo. Most people say toilet in the uk
Outroom.
The dinner area is known as the inroom.
My cousin’s husband is from the UK and when visiting us he will say he has to use “the smallest room.”
Bathroom, restroom and sometimes potty. lol
My mom used to call it “the facilities”.
I should mention that, while on the job with a certain coworker, I would refer to it as the Kye-bo (not sure of the spelling). That is the term Boy Scouts use for an outhouse.
Toilet
Loo
Bog
Shithouse
Lav
Don’t forget the head, and the crapper.
Among friends I used to call it ‘the cludgie’ or ‘the bog’ or just say I was going for a piss, or taking a leak. Nowadays I usually say ‘the toilet’ or ‘the gents’. When in China ‘WC’ came in handy and was widely understood.
Mostly the bathroom, but often the ‘jazz’.
At home, I call it the bathroom. When I’m out and about, I ask for the men’s room.
Restroom, almost exclusively, when discussing it.
If I’m looking for one, I might easily say ‘little boys room’ or ‘potty’ if in a residence. Occasionally ‘the facilities’ or ‘the john’.
