What is the proper way to drink sipping Whisky, room temp, or on the rocks?

Or is it personal choice when it comes right down to it?

Personal choice.

You forgot spring/branch water.
You can also sip whiskey with a splash of water, room temp or with ice.

Leave it in the bottle. Blaze up.

The proper way to drink sipping whiskey is with the mouth. But you expected that smart-assed answer, didn’t you?

Room temperature, no ice, is my preference.

Room temp. no ice.

Personal choice.

The purists say “no ice” because it dilutes the whiskey. I like mine cool/cold, I drop in a cube or two. I haven’t been hogtied yet for doing that.

I linked to an article on the Manly way of sipping whiskey, and they said you should always taste whiskey neat, room temperature the first time.

I think that’s reasonable.
Although, if that gives you the best taste, why do it any differently afterwards?

I used to ask for it with an ice side so I could drop in a cube after a few sips. Not sure where I learned that but I really liked the different tastes that resulted.

I think that sounds like a great plan, @BellaB.

Next Johnny Walker I sample, I’ll have to try it.
