Is it true that eating fruits and veggies and drinking water helps grow your hair?

Asked by LazyMe10 (515points) June 7th, 2016

I was once told my instructor when I was talking about my friends wig in class at the time. That she said, You don’t have to use so much chemicals in your hair, just eat ya fruits and veggies and drink plenty of water. An you’ll see.”

If that is true, then what fruits and what veggies (vegetables) help with hair growth? Do you know?

Your hair health reflects your overall health, so eating a healthy diet will be reflected in your hair.

What is best for hair happens to be protein and amino acids. I have always looked best getting a haircut about every five weeks. Then I started with amino acid supplements for a health recovery issue, and I found I needed a haircut every four weeks for sure.

A healthy diet can help. Some people swear by biotin supplements. Also, iron deficiency is said to cause hair loss. Be careful with iron supplements though. Overdose can be deadly.

Green leafy veggies will have iron and so does red meat. Raisins too.

If your hair is very brittle or dry or falling out it might be a sign of a thyroid problem. There are other medical problems too.

Protein and the B vitamins are the important things here. Usually the push is for fruits and veggies but protein is most important. Hair is sort of like a waste product of protein. So eat an extra bit of meat, chicken, and especially the perfect protein, the egg. Take a B-complex vitamin might help too.

Oh, come on. It depends on the reason for the hair-growth issue. If your hair is suffering because of a bad diet, YES, changing what you eat will help.

If the real problem is a medical issue, diet might not be the only way to correct it.

It can help give yu the sufficient nutrients for healthy hair. But you cannot increase the natural maximum growth speed of hair.
