Are you going away this year?

Asked by LornaLove (10037points) June 7th, 2016

It’s been really hot and sunny in Scotland so far this summer and it has really put me in the mood for a summer holiday/vacation.

Although I won’t be going, due to budget constraints, I’d love to hit the Med. Give me the sunshine, beaches and lazy days any day! Some I know prefer icy holidays. What is your ideal holiday destination?

In place of a holiday, I have turned my garden into a small (very small as it is tiny) paradise. With plants, décor and all sorts of paraphernalia that has given me that feeling of summer and taking a break.

Some people never get to take a vacation, some do it four times a year. Where do you fit in?

Are you going away? If so what is your holiday going to look like?

I’m taking a staycation. I got my air conditioning put in today. I put my money towards making my apartment livable and not on expensive beach vacations. I am hopeful that my mom will come and visit when we have our bills paid.

Already have, went to Barcelona for the last ten days of May.

Going to Chicago for a concert Fourth of July weekend. Will go to Colorado for some hiking in July.

I doubt I’ll be going anywhere on vacation the rest of the year. I will most likely travel to New York to visit/help family. Maybe, if I’m lucky, I’ll get a long weekend in Michigan to visit girlfriends, but I’m not optimistic.

I’ll likely go to Memphis in the fall to see my endocrinologist and visit some friends.

I should say in a way I live on vacation. I’m in Florida with palm trees around me. I can go to the pool and swim when I want. Where I live now there are live bands every night at the outdoor plazas just 15–20 minutes from me with room to dance. Disney is just 1 hr 20 min, and I hope to go to the parks once school starts after the summer when the tourists are gone. I haven’t been in the parks in several years, but I have been to Disney for restaurants and shopping.

I really would like to catch a last minute cruise for a few days, but I’ve been saying that for three years!

I’m thinking I’ll try to plan a European trip in 2017 if my husband can free up his schedule. Its been years, and he really wants to go to Germany, or Ireland and Scotland.

@JLeslie Sounds like paradise. So jealous!

@LornaLove I find it interesting good weather puts you in the mood to travel. I’m the opposite. Bad weather puts me in the mood to escape the crap weather.

Although, I guess a lot of people here (the US) do travel to the beaches in the summer time. They go to beaches close by once the weather warms up if they live in places with harsh winters.

Plan your vacation! Go.

Only if they find the body.

I very very rarely get to go on a vacation due to money constraints. I want to go to Knoxville,TN to the Gentle Barn to meet Dudley.

I will probably be in the UK and in Berlin during the Summer, looking forward to both. Sometime around Christmas, I’ll be in Bavaria for a week. Bavaria is probably my least favorite part of Germany, but there will likely be snow and hiking, and that I love. I’m very lucky in that only the UK holiday will be expensive. I’m staying with friends in Berlin, and I got a week in a hotel in Bavaria when I renewed my newspaper subscription.

I am going away. I’ll be visiting Finland, Norway and Sweden, the UK, Italy and Singapore.

I’ll be visiting the bathroom, the kitchen, the roof garden and constant trips between living room and bedroom, oh and the laundry room. Yes, that should ensure a never-get-bored holiday at home.

No, I’m not going away (unless I get arrested and convicted for something). I’m a homebody.

Probably not, although maybe a weekend or two in the mountains if that counts. I cannot drive very far because of my eyes right now. Plus, I am looking for a new job, and am being somewhat cautious in my spending in case I end up taking a pay cut.

Just got back from a week in Destin. It was nice but I’m a mountain retreat guy. This was really the wife’s vacation.

I went once to the Berkshires (Massachusetts), to a resort we go to frequently. That was in the early part of the year, maybe March.

I am taking a week in August and a 4 day weekend, same month. No specific plans yet. Am working on thinking about it and will talk to a friend who may want to come. She has been saying Williamsburg VA is fun, and I know it is because I’ve been there, but I’m not sure I want to go there in the heat of August.

I live on a lake, in an area where it used to be a vacation spot and the homes around here used to be summer homes. A friend was talking to me last year about how we feel like we want to travel but in reality we live in a really nice spot. We do, and going to the lake on weekends is great, and going for picnics and parties lakeside is great, but a change of scenery is nice, too.

If I can swing it, I hope to get a job lined up but then not start for two weeks or so, and go see my parents. I haven’t seen them since Christmas. I wish they were closer.

I live at 63N with my son. I haven’t had a holiday to a warm climate in 5 years and have just lost my job so have to live on my vacation pay again this year. Also, ex won’t cooperate with me so I can get my son an updated passport. So, no vacations for us.

The closest thing we’ve had to a vacation recently was taking our daughter to see One Direction in Chicago two summers ago, but I don’t really consider one night away from home as a vacation.

Our ideal vacation is spending a week in a cabin on a lake in northern Wisconsin. The last time we did that was in 2008.

I retired recently and plan to do a lot of travelling. In fact we fly out to Berlin on Sunday. I like to explore new places.

I’m lucky to have a holiday house so we go there as much as possible. This summer I’ll be there for two weeks and my mum and sister are visiting for the 2nd week, which will be lovely. I will be painting the outside of the house for the first week!

We will be doing nice gentle activities like picnics, walks and bike rides. The coast is about an hour and half away so a day trip there for a bike ride and picnic is good. We will have both our cars there so we can all go off together, unlike last year when we were 8 people and only had one 5 seater car!

Earthbound, if you find yourself in my city, I’d be happy to act as tour guide. My summer is looking pretty damn boring at the moment.

If any Jelly ever comes this way (southern NY/CT), give a holler!

I’m going on a road trip. My husband and I have hired a motorhome and we’re going to drive from Darwin to Perth. We will be away for about a month. I’m really looking forward to it.
