It would most likely be someplace with decent weather. And, it would truly need to be some place that was not dominated by any of the major contentious groups of the last 100 years. That cuts out most of Europe, most of North America, China, Russia, and the Middle East.
If it were up to me, that would mean Havana, or maybe Quito.
I’m thinking Germany or perhaps one of the Scandanavian countries because they sort of have their shit together.
It will never be Germany because of their history (WW1, WW2).
On the other hand, the Duchy of Grand Fenwick might be perfect.
Babylon
Humans return to the land of their birth.
Switzerland.
They’re the only country that hasn’t pissed anyone off yet.
Sorry, but in the distant future “countries” will be an quaint and curious concept. The logical place for the capital of Earth is Mesopotamia, the region so hospitable to human life that it spawned us.
@ibstubro – Sweetie, we evolved in Africa. Humanoids didn’t leave Africa until about 1.5 million years ago. We could just as easily claim the Congo river delta.
I too would guess Geneva.
Nowhere near where the actual power would lie.
I’m thinking Greece and I’m also thinking that the global government buildings would be in Athens. History repeats itself and I really think Greece will be a wealthy country again in the future.
Actually, @Seek, in all honesty, “Africa” was my first choice, but I don’t know enough about the continent to choose a specific site.
I’m guessing that if humanity survives into the “distant future” it will have to be a hell of a lot more Earth friendly, and there will be a move away from the most overpopulated areas in order to give them a chance to heal. Africa still offers huge swaths of relatively unspoiled land. Human’s could start over there, in an Earth friendly, non-cancerous, sustainable way.
Why do we imagine it has to be in a place? Why can’t the idea of a capital evolve along with the idea of a united Earth?
It’s possible it could be a connected group of people on an advanced internet.
The idea of nation-hood is simply tribalism on a grand scale. It’s not a necessity. We can organize ourselves more efficiently than by geography.
Even better, @Hawaii_Jake.
That also takes into account the possibility that humans will have spread beyond the Earth, and that those colonies will still be simpatico with the citizens of Earth.
You have out Utopiaed me, my friend. :-)
