Not even remotely. Live theatre (particularly in NYC) is so out of the reach of the common person and is exhorbitantly expensive for families.
Good for the actors, mazel tov to the winners, but the whole drama scene is so foreign to those of us in the hinterlands….
Musicals and theatre, 2 things I have no interest in.
I can tell you one thing: nobody is as excited as Rachel Bloom.
I love theater, particularly musicals but, as @elbanditoroso mentions, tickets are so expensive I rarely to never get to go.
It’s a shame they are out of reach for most folks.
I’d hardly say tickets are out of reach. I live on a fairly low income and still manage to take in a few shows a year.
Per TicketMaster:
2 tickets to see Hamilton, on Broadway, rear mezzanine (furthest from stage): $2897.00
2 tickets to see Matilda the Musical, in Boston, mezzanine, $350
Even a little known show, off Broadway, is $175/person + parking/transportation + dinner/coffee.
Certainly not in many people’s budgets.
Certainly, if we want to go by the most expensive examples in the most expensive city and through the most expensive service then yeah, they’re probably out of reach for the common folk. There’s a bit more to live theater than just Broadway/NYC however.
Guys. Hamilton won 11 tonies! Including best musical
