Do Fitbit and the Apple Watch (or other, similar personal step and heartbeat tracking devices) report their results to the NSA and CIA?

Asked by elbanditoroso (33550points) June 12th, 2016

These devices are all internet-based in the sense that they send data to your smartphone app for display.

Do the NSA or CIA also get a real time feed of my movements and heart rate?

Most likely, if they want the info. I used to care and I probably should but I don’t anymore. It’s nearly impossible to secure all of the little gadgets that we have which reveal info like this. We have the right to privacy but it’s just getting much harder to tend to that right.

Yup, and KGB too! ;>) If I was hooked up to one; they would come out to see why my pulse rate drops to 56 or 58.

Yes, international intelligence is very concerned about the relative leanness or lardiness of my @$$.

Most likely. I would have to imagine that supercomputers and algorithms exist that can sort through all of this data to analyze the habits of anyone that they want, not only on an individual level, but also a societal level.
I feel the only reason that people may start to care about this, would be if the NSA was hacked, and everyone’s data collection was released to the public.

They don’t need it from my Fitbit, they can get my location from my phone, and my fitness from my Nike Running app.

But no my Fitbit doesn’t have GPS, and it isn’t that accurate. About all they would learn is how much I sleep and ho much I exercise.

I suppose they could, but I can’t imagine what use the CIA would have for such info from random people.
