Has it been slow in your area as well?
Look down a few questions. This has been going on for a few days. No end in sight.
Wonderful, where did they buy the server for this site Wal-mart??
Things were slow last night, but today it takes forever. I’m sure our intrepid mods are sweating and working feverishly in our engineering spaces.
@SQUEEKY2 I only seem to get server error when I attempt to rush things through frustrated rapid clicking. Mariah was going hand to hand with the servers yesterday. She will bend them to her will.
Yes, its been a Fluther nightmare since like Mon. night now. Hang in there.
Yes, we know @RedDeerGuy1. But how’s your server working? :-)
There are 2 other Meta questions that address and discuss this problem.
Actually, right now I my server is a little slow, but no errors lately.
Death throes knows no boundaries…..give it a week it will all be over….R.I.P.
The mobile version is chugging along and you can answer questions fine, if a tad slow

It’s been all kinds of fucked up. Slow, error messages, slow, slow slow, more error messages.
(Dainty, ain’tcha, @jca)
:-)
The problem is that the servers need to be reset, which only Ben can do. This happens every once in a while, but it usually gets dealt with right away. We’re just having trouble getting a hold of Ben this time.
@Hypocrisy_Central I wouldn’t call something that happens at least once a year a “death throe.”
I too find little to complain about concerning the occasional technical glitches here. I’m too distracted & pissed at fkups by corporations that bill me monthly for supposed “services”.
So…reset by Ben did not work, but we’ve found (part of) the problem: It looks like we’re suddenly getting tons of traffic from different search engines, more than we can handle. We don’t know why, could be an attack of some sort. Our techies have blocked the search engine requests, but it will take another twenty hours or so for that to work – if it works at all. So…check in on June 18th, around noon (PDT). We are not dead yet.
Thank you for the update. I do appreciate it.
@longgone Damn, what a mess, the night they drove ol’ Fluther down, and all the bells were ringin’...haha Lets hope for the best.
Is there anyone from “The Band ” still living?
Both the people in Western Canada are trying to access at the same time? Give the Mrs. a chance!
:-)
@stanleybmanly I think so, a quick wiki read only mentions the death of one member by suicide in 1986.
@ibstubro LOL
Wow..I have actually been able to read a little here tonight, but back to my documentary on the Greeley expedition. Fitting as it feels like we are trapped in the North Pole of Fluther.
@ibstubro “Ahold” is a colloquialism. It is informal. That’s not to say that it is never acceptable, but “a hold” is never unacceptable.
Another update: Things are still far from perfect. We may actually be completely down again soon, the techies are tweaking some things. However, some good news for a change: Ben is looking into some real changes, so when things get better, they should get much better.
@SavoirFaire I wouldn’t call something that happens at least once a year a “death throe.”
Having questions not post has never happened, at least once a years, but…..if all this glorious malfunction and page freezing are not death throes, what a pity, all the headache for naught.
Jesus dude if you want the site to die so bad nobody’s making you come here.
@Hypocrisy_Central I think it’s just some glitches that they are working out, and have to agree with @Mariah if ya don’t like it here ,then here is a secret don’t participate problem solved.
I do like hearing peoples opinions on questions, I may not agree with a lot of them but I come here to get a human point of view, if I want to know how many kilograms in a metric tonne I can just google that.
@Mariah – if the site is taken down for maintenance, will there be a notice posted in the Facebook group?
We haven’t been able to get access to log into the Facebook group as the official user, but we can certainly have somebody post on the page as a guest to explain the situation.
a post in the group would be great – if I spot the notice here I’ll volunteer to carry it over to facebook
@Hypocrisy_Central The site slow down and related errors definitely happen every year. It’s just that it usually lasts for about an hour at most.
We’re apparently living with this one and will make do.
That is a DNS failure, sometimes called gateway error. This failure has been around for at least 15 years that I have been aware of it. It’s hard to troubleshoot because people tend to blame it on the site owner’s cheap software, or poor equipment, while the site owner blames it on somebody doing complex searches in the database. It clears up after a while, so everybody forgets about it.
The fix is to run your own DNS server. Go to http://www.analogx.com/contents/download/Network.htm and download Quick Cache.
