There are so many different formulations of protein powder but I’d like to try one. The idea of chocolate doesn’t appeal to me but it seems to be very popular. What brand do you take and which flavor?

I don’t use any. My boyfriend uses it quite a lot. He uses myprotein brand. He likes Vanilla, and he sometimes has it on cereal with banana. I think it looks horrible, but he really enjoys it and it fills him, so he doesn’t tend to snack during the day.
I used to buy the GNC Banana flavored Whey Protein powder and mix it with 1% milk or OJ. Very good. Too much protein on hard on your kidneys, especially as we are aging. Don’t over do the protein.
Ask your doc for a guideline for your daily protein needs and have your kidney function tested before overloading on protein.
These types of food supplements are the ultimate in processed foods. It is weird that people don’t see that. I get my protein straight from the source: out of the sea, off the meadow, or off the tree, bush or vine in the garden. These are much easier for your body to process and don’t come with all the unhealthy complications one develops over time from eating processed foods.
@Coloma thanks very much . I won’t buy it now. I already have elevated liver enzymes so why chance it with my kidneys? I’ll stick with my multiple vitamins and krill oil.
You need to read some books about nutrition and learn how to eat right. Protein shakes are made of powdered milk, soy flour, sugar, and flavor. They cost about $1.25 for the amount of protein you get in a quarter’s worth of milk. Your body needs 4/10 gram of complete protein per pound of weight, about 65 grams for a female and 90 grams for a male. You do not need more because you exercise or less because you loaf. For convenience you only count 6 grams per egg, 12 grams per glass of milk, and 24 grams per quarter pound of meat. If you eat more than the body needs, the excess is burned as ordinary but expensive calories. If you really think you need more protein, get powdered milk and mix it into your food.
