Do anti-vaxxers also eschew things like tetanus shots and antibiotics?

Asked by Dutchess_III (47126points) July 3rd, 2016

Do they avoid them under the same screwed up “logic” they use to avoid vaccinating their kids?

Some do I am sure. I am anti- OVER vaccinating, and this is why I won’t be re-vaccinating my 7 and 10 yr. old cats that are indoors only at this time. They have enough immunity to rabies and everything else after years of vaccines. I always get the Tetanus myself, just had a booster recently, living on a rural property and being around horses. Horses are highly susceptible to Tetanus, more so than other farm animals, though they are vaccinated as well.

Funny, I know a rabidly anti-vax mother who swabs virtually every surface her kids might touch with alcohol wipes.

She’s really obsessive about it. For example I picked up a book to read to her 3 year old and she said “wait!” and wiped down the covers. Freaky.

She’s a Scientologist and devotee of homeopathy, too.

The motivation seems to be a belief in belonging to a group that sees THE TRUTH and most others are unaware.

I hope so, because I hope they catch tetanus and die, thereby stopping the idiot blood line.

@Call_Me_Jay People are nuts. I once knew thos women who flipped out when I gave her 3 year old a hot dog, but she let him run around naked and barefoot in her pottery studio loaded with toxic glazes and pottery dust. lol Whatever. Pick your poison I always say, there’s plenty of it. Apparently toxic pottery dust wasn’t as bad as a damn hot dog. lol

@Coloma In my state if an animal that comes in contact with a rabid animal and they don’t have a current Rabies Vaccination; they are taken and euthanized.

I’m sure some do.

There are actually very few people not vaccinating their kids.

I can understand why some parents might avoid certain vaccines, but tetanus, that’s insane to me. Not to mention pertussis is combined with the tetanus vaccine, and you can’t get the pertussis vaccine solo in America (unless that changed). I wouldn’t want my kid not vaccinated for pertussis either.

As far as antibiotics. Sure, some people just try to avoid all meds. They believe the body can fight things off. Some people are anti-vaccine, but not anti antibiotics. It varies in every different way possible. I’m not “anti-vaccine” but I won’t get a flu shot.

@Tropical_Willie Yep, state laws, because rabies is incurable, but…it has been proven for years that there is life long immunity after the first series of vaccines. I live in an area with lots of wild life and have always kept the rabies vaccines current inspite of the immunity, but now that my cats are indoors only I will not be re-vaccinating unless they become indoor/outdoor again. Their most current, 3 yr. rabies. just expired in June, they are more than covered at ages 7 and 10 now.
