If the Trumpies are so anti-Washington establishment, how can they even begin to consider Newt (former speaker of the house) Gingrich as a VP or other role?
My impression was that Trump was running against Washington and career politicians. How can Newt Gingrich be acceptable as either VP or in another administration role?
Seems inconsistent or hypocritical. Does this make sense?

For the same reason a sitting Senator (Cruz, Rubio) acts as an “outsider” decrying Washington.
Gingrich got his reputation as a bomb throwing back-bencher, so when ‘94 rolled around and the Reps got control, he was the loud mouth elected Speaker. But even as Speaker, he cast himself as a disruptor, despite his full embracing of all the trappings of the Speaker’s office.
Newt isthe only recognizable name that is apparently eager to take the job. Everyone with a shred of sense takes the “I’m not the right choice” exit as quickly as possible.
A bigger problem with Newt is that he was a strong supporter of NAFTA, which Trump says stole American jobs.
DAMN THE TORPEDOES! FULL SPEED AHEAD!
True “Trumpies” and Sanders supporters for that matter are not as much against “career” politicians as they are against the say anything do nothing establishment politicians. Voters in both camps are simply tired of being lied to. Newt is a solid choice because he and fellow Republicans penned the Contract with America and kept their promise to bring 10 significant pieces of legislation to vote. That kind of say something and do something about it politician is what many American voters are hungry for.
Gingrich has the same family values as Trump. Newt cheated on all his wives with his next wife and served his first wife with divorce papers while she was in the hospital with cancer.
Gingrich has an excellent history of hateful rhetoric against minorities and gays.
Really he’s a solid choice. He appeals to Trump voters because he shares Trump’s views. He shares them loudly and clearly.
Maverick.
Newt was the precursor of Trump.
Trump is running against, his first, biggest mistake?
Simple:
A well established Beltway insider should balance the ticket.
If some people could look beyond the shallow impression of Newt as a “meanie” and appreciate his status as a professional historian he would be an excellent choice.
Few are better qualified to assess the ramifications for the future than those that know the past well.
But, as usual, I’m not getting my hopes up regarding the voting public’s willingness or ability to examine more deeply.
The thing that would make the Newt a particularly bad choice for veep is that he is despised by so many members of both houses in the Congress, and at levels especially vitriolic regarding members of his own party.
