@kritiper A pompadour is a hair piled high on top of the head.
I think the one shown is a bang curl.
In the ‘50s when I was a teen, they were very popular with the tough kids whom we called “hoods,” and they were often called “spit curls.” But my gym coach, a colorful and not totally likeable charater, had his own especially derisive name for them. He called them TITS. To this day I wince a bit when I think about his language.
If you search http://images.google.com for “hair styles for men” you get all the same pictures that show up when you search “pompadour”. I happen to know of the mullet and the mohawk and the ducktail, but google apparently doesn’t. What you have there is just “curl”.
I second “Spit Curl”.
That’s what Supes’ creators referred to it as.
@YARNLADY I went with the definition listed in the dictionary.
“A style of dressing the hair high over the forehead, either by drawing long hair over a roll, or by brushing short hair back so that it stands erect; also, the hair dressed in this style.” -from Merriam-Webster’s New Collegiate Dictionary, 1960 ed.
A spit curl is “sometimes plastered down on the forehead, temple, or cheek.” -from Merriam-Webster’s New Collegiate Dictionary, 11th. ed.
(Lots of Pomade required for all listed here.)
I will agree with @ibstubro for forlock (spelled “forelock” in dictionary.) Thanks @ibstubro ! GA!
You, @kritiper, are correct, my man. I had it spelled “forelock” and through my own stupidity searching for a definition, then a link changed it.
@SmartAZ Google images shows every image that uses the word you are looking for, even if it is incorrect. People supply any label they want, but that doesn’t make it correct.
