Why would I want to pair my tablet with my tv to watch youtube when I already get youtube on my Roku?

Asked by AshlynM (10684points) July 16th, 2016

I see the option in the youtube app to connect my tablet so I can watch youtube on my tv. But I can already watch youtube on my Roku. Should I connect? Is there a benefit to doing this? Will it make the videos load quicker?

It’s just an alternative way to watch YouTube. I assume this is AirPlay in which your tablet is prompting you as an option. It’s just an alternative way of watching it.

I have similar options with the Apple TV and my iPad. I cam AirPlay Youtibe to Apple TV or just use the app. The thing with AirPlay however is that you have to,keep clicking AirPlay for each video for it to stream. Whereas the app has its own interface. I’m assuming Roku is similar.

In the youtube app, it says select a tv to watch videos on. It lists my Roku as 2XD with a number mixed with letters behind it. What happens if I click on that?

I have an Android phone and Roku stick.

The other day I was telling my husband about a stand up comedian I like. I used my phone to pull up a video, hit the “cast to device” button, and bam, Bo Burnham on the big screen.

Much more enjoyable than crowding around a 5” phone screen.

So many devices and services… so many choices. Just experiment to see which choice gives you the best reslution and audio. I find that YouTube’s quality sucks on all my devices, especially on my large-screen tv.

I went ahead and clicked on the option to see what it did. It just allows you to watch the video on your tv, and to control the video from your device like pausing it and fast forwarding.
