There is a term I can’t think of that goes with whoever brings up Hitler in a debate automatically loses the debate. But it can’t be always. When is it wrong when is it right?

Well its perhaps ok to bring up Hitler when emphasising how extreme a certain act or attitude towards a minority. I sometimes bring up Hitler when debating with homophobes (particular homophobes who regard homosexuals as not human). I usually point out to them that their mentality is exactly the same as Hitler. Then ask them why they align with Hitler’s morality (or lack of).
However I would also like to add that its best to avoid phrases like “you’re worse than Hitler”. Just point out the similarities between nazism and people of today if they occur.
Depends on which side you’re…)
WWII, genocide, megalomania, Donald Trump, etc.

When you have to reduce ethics and morality to its basic components.
Godwin’s law does not deal with whether or not it is “right” to bring up Hitler or Nazis. I would personally suggest that if it is not very closely relevant (whomever one is discussing actually advocates totalitarian fascist policies), then don’t use the comparison.
When one isn’t very concerned with one’s credibility.
Hitlerâ„¢ is a very broad brush.
One good a debating should be able to use a more precise tool.
I thought that the mention of Hitler was a tacit admission of defeat by the offending party no matter when it is brought up.
If I go accrding to Godwin’s law don’t bring up Hitler even when it’s appropriate. Even if you’re making sense….
What does this mean? “If you’re thoughtful about it and show some real awareness of history, go ahead and refer to Hitler or Nazis when you talk about Trump. Or any other politician.”
I’m still thinking about your answers. I want to respond to everyone at the same time.
