Where can I get a ring appraised at?

Asked by rockstar (675points) July 31st, 2008

I have a ring I need to sell. The pawn shop wasn’t going to give me crap for it so I thought about selling it on Ebay and a friend recommended I get it appraised. First of all, is that really necessary? Secondly, does anyone know anywhere else I could sell it. I know I wont make all of the money back but I would like atleast more than what the pawn shop would give me.

Depending on the value of the ring (anything more than a couple of hundred dollars), having an independent appraisal may be a plus in selling it. You can put that in the ad. Use someone who does not buy and sell jewelry. Just google independent jewelry appraisers with your city and state.

Thanks for the link! I’ve been looking for something like this for a while! In fact, I asked this question two weeks ago. How come you told rockstar, but not me? Do you like sharks better than pink flowers?

La_chica_gomela's avatar

So, do you have to live in one of those cities to sell them your jewelry?

@la chica- What is cooler than a shark? Pink flowers are a close second though :)

@flameboi-Thanks for the link. Do they only deal with high end jewelry? Cause mines not that expensive.

I’m sorry I must have missed it :s I love sharks, but pink flowers are a plus for a lady :)
@rockstar
Nope, it doesn’t have to be that expensive, you don’t need to live in the city, you can actually mail the piece (is very safe, trust me)

La_chica_gomela's avatar

…yeah mine isn’t either…
so, do you have to mail it for them to appraise it? and if they don’t want it or you don’t like their price they mail it back?

Yes, they mail the piece back :)
