What do you think is the best and the worst movie sequel ever?

@Astro: When I saw your question, those were the exact two movies that came to mind. Nice.

Best: The Godfather Part Two.
Worst: Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2 and Son of the Mask.
Future worst sequel:S.Darko. (Donnie Darko sequel)
Although it is not out yet, I see no absolutely no way that movie could be good.

Any Chevy chase national Lampoons movie

For worst, a tie between Hannibal (sequel to The Silence of the Lambs) and Speed 2: Cruise Control (one big ad for the cruise ship industry)...four or so hours of my life that I will never get back.

Best sequel.. um… one that come to mind is Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me. Way better than the first (Goldmember sucked hard though). Worst? The Fast and the Furious sequels were all terrible.

Do not see the matrix as some sort of sequel…

Worst – Clones (Technically a prequel, I know, but a sequel from the franchise perspective).

Indiana Jones: Best; Crusade, worst, Crystal Skull.

Crystal Skull is far and away better than Temple of Doom!

So far, I agree with the other Bests but I liked Empire Strikes Back as a great sequel.

Worst to me was Ring 2. I was so scared by the first one. The second one was awful. That and Blair Witch 2. How could they do that! So bad that they nearly ruined the first one.

Which Pirates?. Dead Man’s Chest or At Worlds End? The first was definitely better than the second. I haven’t seen the last one.

I meant Dead Man’s Chest. I also did not see the last after seeing the second although I have been told it was better.

Worst: Any other sequel…Film makers who want to make a sequel should just make another movie and pretend it has nothing to do with the first one.

Man… I forgot to mention that I loved, LOVED, A Fish Called Wanda, and went to see Fierce Creatures expecting it to equal the first. What a horrible disappointment that was.

Fierce Creatures wasn’t actually a sequel to Wanda.

I know, Cleese tried to categorize it as “not a sequel, but an equal…” despite the cast remaining the same, and similar characterizations, the movie still fell far short of the mark. Broke the hearts of many, mine included.

Most sequals are lame but I like me some Star Wars sequals. Just check the revenue for verification.I guest the worst would have been something that I never saw the original to because it was too lame.

I love all of the batman sequels. If you would consider them sequels. Worst would be um Halloween. Loved the first one but the second… Third not so good

Bar none, the worst sequel of all time IS Exorcist II: The Heretic

That was the worst one. That annoying tv commercial drove me nuts. I have no idea why it needed to be part of the Halloween series.
