I saw it last Tuesday with my best friend.
It wasn’t even a necessary production let alone doesn’t live up to the original but it has a unique perspective and characters and is fun in its own way. I enjoyed it.

Almost the entire original cast got a cameo throughout the film, the exceptions being Harold Remis (Egon) who has passed away though he still actually gets a shot as a statue in a college and Rick Moranis (Louis) who I believe is retired.

No interest at all, would rather have my eyes sucked out with hot toffee apples
My daughter & I went to the cinema recently to see Conjuring 2 & there was one of those irritating flash mob events going on in the foyer. A bunch waiting to see Ghostbusters, dressed as cheerleaders, making arses of themselves, I wished for a gun

No. And I have no intention to.
I hear it is almost as bad as Adam Sandler’s “Pixels”.

I talked my daughter into taking her nephew, (my younger grandson). He was with me every day this week “helping me out”, and frankly, I needed desperately to unload him in order to do some work. So I put em both on the BART, for a ride to the mall for Ghostbusters and lunch. The entire excursion cost me 58 bucks, and I swear I no longer understand how people can afford children. Anyway, they both loved the movie (and the daughter is very critical) and roaming the Barnes & Noble like the daughter did with me in her youth. That was on Wednesday, and I’ve been getting reviews, plot summaries, gags, oubursts of “who you gonna call” and “I ain’t afraid of no ghost” from the frenetic little chatterbox ever since. It was a busy week for the both of us, and the gossip about our family was rewardingly extensive. All in all, I had a damned good time.

God, pixels. Sooo bad.

Hey, my kid loved Pixels.

Haven’t seen it yet, but I’m planning to. Not in theatres though.

Has anyone else seen the new Independence Day sequel? It was a laundry list of sci-fi cliches. So, so very disappointing. I give up on Hollywood. Back to subtitles for me.

ragingloli's avatar

@SeekIt was a laundry list of sci-fi cliches.
So was the first movie. Independence Day has never been actually good.

At least the first one had a coherent plot and character development.

This sequel never focuses on a single character arc for more than 30 seconds. They add in a kabillion cardboard-cutout, focus-group-designed characters – the “bad boy” dudebro who isn’t actually bad, the lovably awkward nerd, the nerdy comic relief nerd, the Bad-Ass Black Guy, the surprise gay love interest for Brent Spiner who of course dies, and the “pretty” but uninteresting love interest for the dudebro who is former president’s daughter and the current president’s speech writer but also a fighter pilot(?) because you need at least one girl in the cast.

And we went through the whole film pointing out scenes and sub-plots stolen from other movies. Star Wars, Battlestar Galactica, Star Trek, Armageddon, all sorts of shit.

It was like someone took the last 30 years of sci-fi films, threw them into a blender, filtered them through a “how to simultaneously appeal to the masses and alienate science fiction fans” filter, and hit “record”.

the first one was full of stupid characters without development, too.
the fighter pilot president who has a corny speech at the end.
Jeff Goldblum, who is an environmentalist.
(and no, him making up with the president who he punched is not character development.)
Jeff Goldblums stereotypical Jewish dad. Hey, did you notice that he was supposed to be really Jewish?
Jeff Goldblum’s stereotypical gay colleague
Will Smith as the bad-ass black guy.
Will Smith’s corny, joke-cracking, dude-bro best friend, who dies.
And who can forget Randy “anal probed by aliens” Quaid, who dies.

Independence Day: Ribbedforherpleasure was the same movie as Independence day, the only difference being that the alien ships are now the size of a planet.

Seek's avatar

I guess the main difference was I was 10 when the first Independence Day came out.

That said, I have seen the new Star Trek movie.
I think the Star Trek Reboot trilogy is the first trilogy where the 3rd movie is the only good one.

Seek's avatar

I’m scared to even watch it.

I’m not really a fan of McCarthy or Wigg, but I found that I enjoyed it more than the original. I mean, it’s Ghostbusters, so you can’t exactly expect great cinema. But I actually laughed out loud at several points, which is more than I ever did with the original.

jca's avatar

I didn’t see the original as it looked a bit too silly for me, and ditto for the current one.

I want to try to find or see on the internet the new Anthony Weiner documentary, ”Weiner.”

^ Be warned: Rule 34 is a thing.

No. Looks really stupid IMO. I’m a pretty frequent movie goer and like a wide variety of films but Ghostbusters doesn’t appeal to me at all.

I WANT THE STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION INTERACTIVE VCR BOARD GAME.

OMFG this review is as long as the damn movie.

I haven’t seen it and won’t pay money to see it. It looks terrible in the trailer. I think having an all female cast was an awesome idea, but it looks so horribly executed. I’ve always found Melissa McCarthy to be obnoxious and not funny, like Jim Carrey or Pee Wee Herman (not a good thing imo). Maybe with a better female cast and much better writing it could have been great. As is, I’ll wait for Netflix.

I’m a massive fan of the original and I have to be honest…I actually thoroughly enjoyed the reboot. Loved the characters and the dialogue was sharp and funny. Only thing I genuinely disliked were the cameos. Horribly done.

SimpatichnayaZhopa's avatar

No, I do not want to see it. I have seen the originals on DVD, and the new one sounds as if it is a poor copy with changes for the worst. The cast sounds bad. I will stand by the original and not see the new one.
