What states will Trump win?

Asked by JLeslie (65743points) August 15th, 2016 from iPhone

What are your guesses for:
PA
FL
OH
NC
GA
NJ
MI
UT

Those are mostly swing states. Utah isn’t usually a swing state, but the Mormons are down on Trump to some extent.

I have my guess, but I’ll wait to hear some answers.

If you have any states you want to guess about feel free.

He’ll likely get more than is expected at the moment. I suspect there are a large number of conservatives who will vote for Trump and either don’t know it yet or will never admit openly to doing so. When real decision time comes they’ll vote for who they think will protect their interests the most.

That would be a nightmare..

It’s all about the 538 electors that comprise the Electoral College—not to be confused with Trump Institute. Every poll I’ve seen shows that Hillary is a sure bet… though of course the only sure bet since Trump descended (and I DO mean descended) down the escalator is that civil, constructive discourse will never return to U.S. politics.

… and to underscore my point, this.

Pennsylvania has voted for the Democrat in the last seven presidential races, and New Jersey and Michigan for six. Trump is not going to change that.

NC voted for Obama in 2008. Take them out.

Come to think of it, I’d be willing to wager that within minutes of the Titanic striking the iceberg, bets and pools spread faster than the panic as to whether or not the ship would sink, the size of the hole in boat, even the odds that polar bears might be spotted from the lifeboats.

Nate Silver runs the website fivethirtyeight.com. He became famous by correctly predicting 99 of 100 states in the last two elections. He’s pretty good at this sort of thing, a lot better than I am.

Here’s his forecast tool, updated frequently (last 2 hours ago as of writing). There are three “flavors” in the upper left corner you can play with to get a feel for how likely states are to vote each way.

If you want to know more about the tool and how they get their numbers, there’s a link at the bottom under “How this forecast works”.

I live in the very red state of Idaho, just North West of Utah. I can’t imagine, nor can I hardly wait to see, what these folks will do. I heard a comment somewhere that they might write in Ted Cruz. But I can’t even venture a guess.

@funkdaddy thank you for the great link!

I think he is saving up his campaign funds to bribe the people who really choose the president, the electorial college(United_States)

I’m trying not to think about him winning. It’s been like waiting to see if an asteroid is going to hit us or not.

Maybe Evan McMullin will win Utah?

I think Trump has a really good shot in PA. Of all the states the media has in question as swing states, I think PA is the most precarious.

The rest I think go for Hillary. Although, I know a lot of Floridians who will vote for Trump. More than you would guess. I still think Hillary will win by a pretty good margin in FL, but I’m still shocked at all the Trump signs around me, and especially the amount of Jews who are going to vote for Trump!
