Do whales jump out of the water because they are itchy?

They need air to breathe.

They aren’t fish. They are aquatic mammals like dolphins. Big difference between them and fish.

They breath through the blowhole and that is on top so all they would have to do is surface.

The more I think about it the impact from hitting the water when you are that big would probably do a good job of cleaning you off.

I always just assumed they enjoy it. Dolphins do it too and I would think there would be less of a “cleansing” due to their size and shape.
