When and how is the best time to ask a boss, co-worker or ex-co worker for a LinkedIn recommendation?

Asked by furtherinvestperson (24points) August 27th, 2016

What and when is the proper time to ask for a recommendation from your boss, co-worker or ex-co-worker without coming off as odd?

After 8–10 months since you started?
After you leave (if you leave)?
After 6–7 months since you started? (That too early?)

And how and in what manner should you ask for it?

Well, if you ask them at any point, they’ll assume you are not happy with your current job and are looking for a new one.

Not a wise move.

It’s ok to ask your past colleagues / boss if you have good rapport with them. Don’t ask for current employees though as it would definitely look odd.

Why do you want a recommendation from them?

Only after you have left a job on good terms.

If you are re-hirable.

This is just an odd question and I’m going to go with: Probably never.
