California Jellies: Any special tips for college funds for kids?

Asked by janbb (63222points) September 9th, 2016

Want to start a college fund for my wee granddaughter. I know some of the states have special savings accounts you can set up that are tax deferred. Anyone know anything germane to California or federal policies in general

There is no tax advantage for starting a 529 plan in California. I recommend using Iowa or Utah’s 529 plan. My wife and I used College Savings Iowa for our daughter. We used it because it uses Vanguard index funds which are low cost.
