I run around with babies and kids for 8 hours a day and don’t own a car, so I walk a lot.
I am in my low 60s. My BMI is right in the middle of the healthy range.
I eat about 2200 calories per day unless I am working really hard.
I move around a lot taking care of my land, and doing projects: chain sawing downed trees, raking, adding water to fish pond, splitting firewood (with splitter), et.
I go to bed around 9 and wake up around 5:30 -6:00.
I watch very little TV. < 1 hours per day.
I don’t drink or do anything to excess.
I don’t smoke.
I exercise by running at least five times a week, I walk as much as possible, and I avoid processed foods as best I can.
This is relatively new for me, only for the last three and a half years. In 2013 I lost sixty pounds to get my BMI down into the middle of the healthy range (23). I had a health evaluation at work as part of a health fair during insurance open enrollment. It was pretty scary, and I had to do something or my life would become miserable pretty quickly.
I also do not smoke or drink alcohol. My last drink was in April, 1986; my last cigarette was in August 1988.
I moan and bitch a lot. Rather than the sweat laden vulgar exercises associated with keeping fit, I have chosen the more satisfying regimen of throwing fits. Nothing can compare with a bracing tirade when it comes to conditioning yourself for the insults you will surely confront in the upcoming day.
After 45, I worked out in a gym 3–4 times a week. I got into kayaking, scuba, biking, sailing. There are no gyms here and biking these mountains is too much work now. It has to be fun. I still sail and dive.
But for the last couple of years, my day is pretty much exactly like @LuckyGuy describes, except I do a lot of it on horseback. I miss the gym.
Where the hell have you been, Lucky?
Walking, pool aerobics, swimming – about 5 -7 hours total a week.
I’m quite active but the stubborn middle age spread is a hard one to keep reined in these days. I am ramping up my program this week again, cutting out all sugar ( my weakness ) after a lengthy phase of very little to none and then falling off the sugar wagon in a big way, indulging in ice cream a lot this summer. I don’t adhere to any strict regime, other than watching my calorie intake. I am one that finds regimented exercise boring so do best just incorporating it into my daily scene.
I am not a gym type at all. I had a membership once and it went the way of my Eliptical. That was an expensive machine that turned into a glorified clothes hanger. lol
I walk quite a bit, swim here and there and ride and handle horses.
I also tend to gain weight in the summer vs. the winter because I end up not eating dinner until 8–9 o’ clock at night which sucks.
In the winter I eat early, and am not going to bed within an hour or two of dinner. I really hate daylight savings time and wish they would just set one time frame year ‘round.
I got a modest workout already this morning chasing around horses to be medicated and sprayed with fly repellent, masking them for the day and walking to and fro over hill and dale here. The only regimented routine I do is my morning stretches and a wee bit of yoga to get the ol’ bod lubed for the day.
I did spend many years walking/jogging about 3 miles a day but that has lost it’s appeal and I have a bad ankle that can’t tolerate any harsh impact anymore.
I am a foody by nature so the biggest efforts I apply are calorie counting and trying to not snack/eat anything after 6 p.m. I love to cook and I love to eat and have a strong hedonistic side, if something is good just kill me with it, good thing I never tried Heroin. haha
I try not to eat too much, try to eat the Mediterranean diet, walk 3 miles at least 5 times a week. In addition to the walking I do while working, I mow the lawn, walk to other places when the weather permits.
Grandkids. They keep me so fit I like to die!!!
Walking the real Bella daily. Swimming a couple of times a week, 4 – 6 hours of dance class a week. Re-learning how to ride a bicycle. It all allows me to enjoy my meals and be wonderfully strong.
I’m 52. I do pushups and planks for my stomach and leg lifts and butt squeezes and kegels and light aerobics every day.
Also, I watch what I eat. I am a vegetarian and am very conscious of what, and how much I eat. I rarely eat sweets or cheese anymore. 2 years ago, I started this routine and I’ve lost 30 lbs. and have kept it off.
To keep fit, I have some my own rule to keep fit.I am willing to share with you because I think my rules are effective.
1.Drinking water
In fact, we actually do not consume enough water daily. Water is extremely necessary for the body to regulate. Also, water can carry out our body functions and get rid of waste as well as bring more nutrients and oxygen through the body. You should try to eat at least 8 glasses of milk per day and drink one before meal.
2. Having enough sleep
Lack of sleep can lead to skin problem. Therefore, you should try to spend at least 8 hours sleeping.
3. Exercise Daily
Of course, we need to exercise daily. Not only just several times per week, but also per day. With 30 minutes per day of walking, running or swimming, you can totally keep fit successfully.
4. More fruits
Fruits are loaded with plethora of vitamins and essential minerals. You can fill your palate with these following nutritious fruits: Apricots, Avocado, Apple, Cantaloupe, , Kiwi, Guava, Grapefruit,Strawberries , Papaya, Watermelon
5.More vegetables
Resembling fruits, vegetables are essential for maintaining a healthy life . Experts highly recommend that individuals should get up to 9 servings of fruits/vegetables. I usually eat avocado and guava.
6. Avoid any sugar sweetened-beverages and smoking
@Ashleybennet Actually, you can drink too much water. I used to subscribe to the idea that you can’t. As a result I always had a 32 oz foam cup with me which I regularly filled with ice and water.
A couple of years ago some random tests showed that my sodium levels were very low. My doc and I figured out it was because I was flushing too much water through my kidneys.
It was a hard habit to break.
For me, to keep fit,
1. I try to do some regular exercises such as walking, running and swimming in every morning. I usually spend at least one hour to practise exercises.
2. Take enough sleep for like 7 hours per day and drink lots of water during the day, especially one warm cup of water after waking up. This will keep your body staying hydrated during day.
3. I try to eat enough for breakfast and then reduce my calories intake at lunch and dinner.
4. I eat more vegetables and drink some healthy juices. There are some juices that can promote your weight loss effectively such as avocado or guava.
