Have you ever given blood?

I’m donating blood for the first time tomorrow. The mobile blood drive is coming to my college.

I’ve given 8 and half gallons. Including apheresis where they separate the blood and return the parts of the blood they don’t need.

Every 2–3 months for the last 35 years. Easy painless and makes me feel like I did something good.

Note: no alcohol for 24 hours after donating.

Yes. They prick your finger to determine your blood type and then they take your blood. Then you get a snack and get to relax for a while.

Yes, many times, but I had to stop, because every time I gave blood, I got sick to my stomach, even after resting and drinking orange juice and eating donuts after the donation. They told me to donate money instead : (

Now I’m hungry for orange juice and donuts.

No, but I’ve received blood 11 times. Thank you for donating; people like you save people like me.

It is one of my greatest life goals to give at least some of that blood back. I need to gain 10 pounds and get my iron levels up before I will be eligible.

I used to, but then it seemed like every time I tried to donate there was a reason I couldn’t. I was anemic, I had used an antibiotic eye drop, I didn’t weigh enough. Mostly it was the anemic thing. I’m sure I could give now, but I hadn’t thought about it until you brought it up.

I’ve donated a few times.

I read that giving blood benefits one’s circulatory health, so that’s another reason to do it.

@Mariah

What’s the minimum weight for donating?

RedDeerGuy1's avatar

No. I would like to, but the medicine I am on disqualifies me. I would like to know my blood type.

I give frequently.

Yes I have. Like putting money in a bank….you never know when you might need it back.

No, but I’d love to.

When I was younger, I had anaemia and then I had children and was breastfeeding, all of which stopped me giving blood. Then I was banned from giving blood because I’d been in the UK for more than six months between 1980–1996 and had eaten beef. This means there is a chance I could have “Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (vCJD, the human form of the bovine condition sometimes known as ‘mad cow disease’)”

So sadly, I can’t give blood.

This is related to the fatal variant

Yes, I am O- a universal donor and I also have donated to other research using blood draws with ‘Stem express.”

Nope. My iron runs too low.

I’m A neg. Only about 6% of the population has A neg. So I use to donate all the time when I was younger. I’ve donated one pint over 16 times.

I even donated WBC’s one time. That was a 4 hour procedure and the Tech told me to never come back because he got a tiny amount of WBC’s from me.

I don’t donate anymore because I have very low blood pressure. I was told that if they took a pint from me that I’d wind up in the hospital where that would likely give me 2 pints of blood.

Yes, I used to on a regular basis, good veins, O+ blood, they liked me. I have had to quit though.

I’m not eligible due to a testing error with Florida Blood Services. (hack…spit)

I received two transfusions in my life. Thank you for donating.

I can’t give due to a medical condition I have. I would if I could. I tried to donate my son’s cord blood but there was no system in place where I live.

Thankfully, I’ve never been in a position to need any but my mother was so thank you, and everyone else, for donating.

I have given blood several times. Mostly to give back because when my daughter was born, she needed transfusions. One time, the nurse was inexperienced, and didn’t place the needle correctly. Blood came out very slowly, so it took forever to get the minimum amount. The next times, I made sure an experienced nurse did it – no problems.
