Are guys who walk around sagging so much they have to keep yanking up their breeches or holding them up to keep them off their ankles are like women who have shorts or skirts so short they have to keep tugging them down?
Lately (around here anyway) I am noticing more and more guys hanging lower and lower, some to the point they cannot walk without holding their breeches up or having to yank them up every five steps to keep them from dropping to their ankles. That brings to me the memory of when I saw women with shorts, dresses, or skirts so short they had to keep tugging them down. I mused; are those sagging guys are like the reverse of those girls who tug down because they feel what they chose to wear was too short?

Not really, if we look into the murky origin of the sagging trend, we come across two stories, both originating from prisons. One is that sagging began in prisons as prisoners were forbidden from having belts. The purpose of this was to prevent suicides and to passively decrease the possibility of inmates killing others. The other story is that those who were sexually available in prison would sag their pants to indicate that they were an available piece of ass. Regardless of which of the stories is true – or if either of them are true at all – the general consensus is that sagging did start in prisons and became a major part of gang culture. It indicates that the individual sagging possibly did time and is “hard”. Sort of like the variety of critters who are venomous and are brightly colored as to indicate “you don’t want to mess with/eat me.”
Of course, it is becoming more and more widespread and you see derptards like Justin Bieber sagging (who we all know is a little attention seeking tinkerbell… sorry if I offended any tinkerbells out there), as well as quite a number of hip hop artists seemingly promoting it as something cool.
Personally, I just like to fondly remember the time some sagging asshole robbed a gas station. He didn’t even make it 10 meters out the door as he tried to jump a row of low bushes only to get his pants caught and a mouthful of sidewalk (and teeth) for his troubles.
Pretty sure the police had a good laugh about that idiot. I did.
Yes. They prefer fashion over comfort. imo
I used to do all the high school garbage. Then I would do my homework. Then I would skateboard until about 2AM or when my body would give out.
I wore really baggy pants since they were better to skate in.

It’s an interesting question, and I’m not sure about how I’d answer… still, it gave me a thought… for the most part, the mini skirts/shorts women wear are made that short by manufacturers, where the pants men wear are made to be worn on the hips and guys push them lower on purpose…. in both cases the wearers are choosing fashion over comfort, but the fashion appears on the wearer by slightly different means.
It’s easier now that I’m shopping in women’s work clothes to find more conservative cuts—actually, it’s hard to find things that are short or skimpy in these sections—but when I was an adolescent with a mom who wanted me to wear shorts and skirts of a certain length or longer, it was difficult to find them in my age’s departments or stores. My mom would wind up relenting more often to a shorter-than-desirable length because there wasn’t anything longer. The story has been the same in the selection of casual college-age and mid-twenties fashion, and is especially noticeable when I compare the differences in cut between casual and workplace clothing. It’s possible to find longer lengths in casual, and it’s possible to find shorter lengths in workplace, but it’s not common.
At least, that’s what my understanding is/what my experience has been, but then, I’ve only really shopped for one gender. I know that male jeans vary in bagginess/skinniness, but that doesn’t force sagging? (At least where I am, guys can be seen sagging, or not sagging, any width of jean)... so I wasn’t of the impression that certain jeans are designed to sag, but maybe I’m mistaken.
I’m rambling—my main thought—it seems like the shortness of women’s skirts are (except when scissors are involved) determined by the manufacturers, where the sagging of men’s pants are determined by where they cinch or don’t cinch the belt. I’m not sure that that necessarily means anything significant—since both genders are exposed to pressures to look certain ways—it’s just interesting to me in my sleepy state…
@Winter_Pariah Regardless of which of the stories is true – or if either of them are true at all – the general consensus is that sagging did start in prisons and became a major part of gang culture.
It did get started with gang culture and took off as some of those gang members when commercial back in the mid-80s with their brand of ”gansta rap”, the two prevailing thoughts make me chuckle because they are both inaccurate. I got it straight from the horse’s mouth back in the early 80s (not sure how old you are), when the LA Crip gangs were getting started, especially the infamous ETGC (Eight Trey Gangsta Crips). To be able to hide in plain sight, they (the Crips) came up with the sagging pants. It served two things; they could conduct business on the street without the cops knowing who they were because they did not have to ”flag” (wear their blue bandanas in their pockets or around their heads), also they knew who wasn’t a Crip coming through their turf so they can either rob him, beat him, or both, if they so choose.
It indicates that the individual sagging possibly did time and is “hard”.
Those around here sagging a lot are too young for hard time, if they even busted a grape they would be sent to juvenile hall, or CYA, some seem to be middle schoolers.

I do not see many women sagging that deep around here, and those who do are gang gals, or butch lesbians, outside of that a portion of those sagging like that are white boys and Hispanics, strange, hardly ever see Asian people sagging like that..
@Soubresaut I know that male jeans vary in bagginess/skinniness, but that doesn’t force sagging?
I have never seen any specific brand of pants, in the past or today, that is made to sag below one’s butt.
What you described sounds like the typical gangster ‘fashion’ in the hood. I personally find it sexy when a man wear his pants like that, especially when his underwear is partially visible. As for the ladies, I hope you know that the length of the skirt is often predetermined by the manufacturer, thus while many women have different lower part height they will still buy an undersized skirt if they deem it attractive, at the expense of having to pull it down every so often for decency’s sake.
@Hypocrisy_Central Are you trying to decide whether to sag your pants or wear a short skirt? I’m confused by this question.
@ForHatesSake Neither. What I meant is that I like men who wear their pants low enough that their underwear is partially visible.
@ForHatesSake His pants sag because of his mouldy Moby Dick
(guess who’s been looking at your profile ;-}
I like when I’m watching Cops, and the reason the clearly more athletic guy doesn’t get away from the police is because he’s trying to keep his pants on.
I always, well usually, root for the person running from the police. But it’s also entertaining when the person running can’t get away because of fashion.
This is an odd place.
@Hypocrisy_Central haha okay! Good to make sure that I wasn’t misstating the skirts-made-short/pants-not-made-sagged comparison
