This morning I was Saggitarius. Now I am not! How dare they?

Asked by elbanditoroso (33577points) September 26th, 2016

NASA added another constellation that will completely throw off the whole astrological sign belief systen.

Old news.

People have been lamenting that for years. But really, have you had your chart done lately? You are probably doomed anyway.

You will meet a tall dark stranger in the house of the full moon…oops, not!

It makes me a Sagittarius, and archers are way cooler than goat-fishes. I’m good with it.

I’m a Libra now, I liked being a Scorpio.

Your horoscope for today: If you believe in astrology, good luck in life. You need it.

Another goat-fish to archer, though I must admit, I was always strangely fond of the goat-fish. But centaurs are pretty cool too.

I am not abiding any such change, by the way, as it puts me and my girlfriend in the same bucket as two of my exes.

OH NO! I was so proud to be a Gemini and now that’s all ruined! I’m a… Taurus!? I’m so disappointed…

I was a Gemini, born in the year of the dragon… I was twin dragons.

A hoax, not that horoscopes had any bearing anyhow.

JoyousLove's avatar

@Hypocrisy_Central: It’s not a hoax… It’s just not accepted by the astrology community.

The following is from an article on time.com:
’“Astronomy is the scientific study of everything in outer space,” wrote NASA. “Astrology is something else. It’s not science.”

The lengthy post explains that NASA made its update based on hard facts, pointing out that if you want to blame anyone for playing fast and loose with the stars, point the finger at the Babylonians for leaving out Ophiuchus entirely. “To make a tidy match with their 12-month calendar, the Babylonians ignored the fact that the sun actually moves through 13 constellations, not 12. Then they assigned each of those 12 constellations equal amounts of time,” NASA wrote. “So, we didn’t change any zodiac signs…we just did the math.”’

So is there a 13th constellation in this set of constellations…? Yes. Is it recognized by the original Babylonian interpretation? No. Is it accepted by most modern astrologists? Nah. But it does exist and if you are trying to be rational in your belief of this phenomenon (which is kind of an oxymoron), you’ll have to acknowledge Ophiuchus.

I would be Virgo instead of Libra..so I should start acting like one now..) Anyone in the same club?

I’m not at all surprised. The Earth is constantly moving and changing, and it isn’t so shocking that it affects everything around the Earth. And the changing horoscope isn’t a new discovery anyway

That’s why I don’t believe in horoscope, at least the conventional one. To really know how the horoscope can affect you, you have to follow the changes very closely, and that’s something nobody seems to have time to think about.

It’s okay. It’s all made up anyway.

NASA tweeted their reaction to this story:
Have you heard that we changed the zodiac signs? Nope, we didn’t…we just did the math. Info: http://go.nasa.gov/zodiac

@JoyousLove , I have also been transformed from Gemini to Taurus, though I did have some Taurus leanings due to my prior position on the cusp. I stubbornly refuse to abide by my reclassification, but then doesn’t that mean I am acting like a Taurus? This is all so confusing.
