Are you a liar?

Asked by SQUEEKY2 (23425points) September 28th, 2016

If you truly believe what you are saying is the truth, even though it has been proven by others to be very untrue.

No. The insane do not lie.

In your case it’s not a liar, it’s a delusional wreck.

jonsblond's avatar

No, that’s willful ignorance.

Coloma's avatar

No but willful ignorance yes. ^

Of course I lie. In fact every word that I say is a lie. Even that last sentence is a lie.

I don’t believe that truth exists. I don’t think that it’s possible to absolutely prove anything to be 100% true. Nothing is exact. There is always a plus or minus effect on all measurements and data.

Therefore I don’t trust anything or anyone and perhaps most importantly I don’t trust myself. This realization has been very helpful to me.

Life is a lie, get use to it.

Mimishu1995's avatar

@gondwanalon I think you need to read the details.

imrainmaker's avatar

If it’s been proven by factual data and still you’re denying it then that won’t term it as a lie but ignorance as stated above. It might mean you’re nuts also..)

Stinley's avatar

Not a liar in terms of the details.

I do lie about other things to make my life easier. It’s a bad habit. I’m trying to be more truthful.

Humans can rationalise almost anything. They twist and turn facts and deny and show a real gift for remaining wilfully ignorant.

I need proper proof and believe in the scientific method. I think godpreachers, homeopathy, antivaxxers and climate change deniers are lying.

I have no problem with admitting things we don’t know. It’s fine to say we don’t know. But when we do know, and people still refuse and continue on, then, that makes them lairs. Lairs of the most pitiable sort, because they should know better.

ragingloli's avatar

I always lie.

ucme's avatar

I just asked my life guru Spunkmeyer Sweatybollocks & he confirmed that no, I am not, which is nice.

ARE_you_kidding_me's avatar

It depends, sometimes people have “proven” things that turned out to be completely wrong. If you believe you are right then by definition it is not a lie.

Dutchess_III's avatar

Well, I have to say you aren’t a liar then. People who preach and teach the existence of a god, or gods, don’t believe they’re lying. But they are.

stanleybmanly's avatar

There is a difference between lying and simply being wrong. Lying must be deliberate.

Dutchess_III's avatar

^^^ Interesting comment @stanleybmanly. Makes sense too.

kritiper's avatar

Yes, if it isn’t important.

ibstubro's avatar

I lie the least of anyone I know.
However, I “know” the Fluther users, and the rest of the people on social sites, so the pool is pretty big.
I will say that I infrequently lie, and it’s usually on the side of good.

If you’ve caught me out in a lie, bring it out?

monthly's avatar

@ragingloli You say you are lying, but if everything you say is a lie, then you are telling the truth, but you cannot tell the truth because everything you say is a lie, but you lie… You tell the truth but you cannot for you lie… illogical! Illogical! Please explain! You are human. Only humans can explain their behavior! Please explain!

monthly's avatar

Oh, I am lying too.

Blackberry's avatar

Lol…everyone lies.

SQUEEKY2's avatar

Yes I know we have all told a lie from time to time, to spare someones feelings or try and get out of trouble , and if you say you haven’t then I am calling you a liar, but that wasn’t the question, for those that read the details thank you.
For those that didn’t did I make them to detailed, long, not to the point?

Stinley's avatar

@SQUEEKY2 I don’t think your question matched the details. I came to the question thinking that it was about lying in general and was mildly disappointed that it was about belief in lies. With hindsight, of course, if I were asking that question I would have asked ‘Is this lying?’ and put the same details in. That’s a totally different question and I would have to read the details to find out what it was that was the lie

Mimishu1995's avatar

@SQUEEKY2 you should have written in your title something like “will you be a liar if you do this?” Or at least put a “details inside” to call your details into attention.

@Dutchess_III But she likes Star Trek. It’s an obscure Star Trek joke.

ROFLOLL!! Dig the chicks, man!

My BBE told me the rain storm last night wasn’t going to last. It is still raining this morning. Does that mean he lied?

Dutchess_III's avatar

Of course not!
