What about the other 3 hours?
I am not OCD, but this is driving me crazy! We bought a light caster from Walmart. It’s a revolving LED light machine that throws red and/or green lights on the walls. It can be set to create several different patterns, constantly moving. We turned it on in the living room last night. Cat went apeshit!
It can be used outside. It’s actually supposed to replace Christmas lights.
Anyway, it’s programmed to run for 6 hours on, then 15 off. That’s 21 hours. WHAT HAPPENS THE OTHER 3 HOURS OF THE DAY???

It needs to sleep. Seriously, my guess is that the motor (or maybe the LEDs) may overheat if used 24 hours a day.
I wasn’t asking why it doesn’t run 24 hours. It runs for 6 hours at a time, then shuts off for 15. Well that means it’s going to run at random times, rather than at the same time every evening.
Yeah, that’s weird. 6 on and 18 off would have been more reasonable.12 on and `12 off would be better. Or 6 on, 1 off, 5 on, 12 off would be perfect if the mortor or LEDs couldn’t handle more than 6.
I’d consult the cat on this. Obviously, he/she is clued into something that we’re not. What planet did buy this on?
Planet Walmart. And the cat is in no condition to talk yet!
Obliviously imported from a planet with 21 hour days.
It installs mandatory Windows 10 updates. That’s better than PCs, which must spend at least 12 hours per day available for Windows 10 updates.
Or maybe it’s to keep cats from burning out.
I would ask the cat, after he/she regains speech.
I will! I’ll let you know what she says.
OK. This is what she said. NO help.
Is it a typo? 15 doesn’t make sense.
Or it is a programming or internal clock error.
@Dutchess_III She’s certainly well-read, if not well-spoken. (How did you ever get such a great photo?)
LOL! It’s a meme thing. I didn’t take it. But I took this one.
Twins were tickled pink! And red and green.
I think it’s in the instruction manual. Rick just told me that’s what it said. I’ll go check.
Aha! He read it wrong! It’s 18 hours off. Now I can sleep.
But this was a fun thread.
Boring. I liked it better when it was 15 hours.
Is the device programmable? The format is suspiciously obtuse. In fact, it is such a glaring defect that it’s difficult to imagine any thinking person bringing the thing to market with so obvious a shortcoming.
Okay 18 is better, but I bet the thing is designed to easily accommodate a greater variety of schedules.
Well, the 6 on just starts when you turn it on. It’s not programmable.
What glaring defect @stanleybmanly?
Never mind. I should have known better.
The fact that you can’t arrange a schedule that approximates actual hours of light and darkness seems a stupid oversight. I mean how likely are you or anyone else to find 18 hours on- 6 hours off convenient?
Well, it’s just a cheap little thing, really. $25 bucks. It’s not going to be any worse that turning on or off Christmas lights. If it goes off, and we want to turn it back on, just turn it off then on (or unplug it and plug it back in.) We’re just trying to figure out how to cast lights on the outside of the house at Christmas time without someone stealing it. I think we may tie it to a tree in the yard.
Should have known better than what @CWOTUS?
Please let us know how long before the cat ignores it instead of being entertained.
It is easy to test the schedule that the light is using. How long does it take to start up again after it shuts off? I am guessing that the 15 is a typo. Having the thing on for 6 hours in the evening would make good sense.
@LostInParadise No, my husband read it wrong. It’s 18 off.
I imagine it just starts its 6 hour on-time just by turning it on. It’s not smart or anything.
Yes, but in that case you get to choose which 6 hours it runs. It would make sense to start it at around 5 or 6 PM.
