Unless it is a publicly traded company, I would not expect many employees to know what their bosses made. Back when I worked for the old owner and when I was first salaried he made over 7 times what I did. When I bought the company from him 5 years ago, he was making 3 times what I was earning. Funny to think that now I pay him 5 times what I make a year.
I agree with @Cruiser I don’t think most employees know what their boss makes.
Some especially if they own the business I would suspect draw a small salary to help the company along, but I wouldn’t feel sorry for them in the least while doing so they are growing equity in the business that they will capitalize on at a later date.
And some especially with well established companies would draw a large salary.
But as just poor wage slaves most of us will never truly know what the top make, but don’t fret they will claim that it is very small compared to what they have to do for it.
The CEO of my company makes 735 times what I make. Sound obscene? It is. Best I can tell he is just fucking around most of the time too.
I’m an owner now, so basically my husband and I are the boss. We each get paid per week about the same as each of our employees, it’s less than $100 per week more than our highest paid employee.
We are running a profit, so if I cashed out the profit I could add another 50% more to our pay, but we wouldn’t take all of that because we would share back some with the employees as a bonus.
We won’t be cashing out the whole profit though, because one of our work vans will need to be replaced sooner or later, and we want to possibly buy a trailer for the business.
When my husband and I worked in corporate the CEO’s made much much more money than we did. Some companies the CEO easily made $5 million while I was making $45k. Other companies the CEO, President, or owner made only 4–10 times what my husband or I made. It varies so much.
Actually it’s just 73.5 times as much, oops. Still obscene.
I don’t know but it’s too much.
Unless I am also an investor, none of my business.
