Have any ladies here gotten the Brazilian Blowout done to their hair?
Hello ladies :)
I am thinking of getting the Brazilian Blowout! It should last about 3 months from what I hear! I’ve never had it done…
Has anyone here gotten the Brazilian Blowout done to their hair? Or know anyone who has gotten it done? How were the results like? How long did yours last? Would you recommend getting it done? Thanks so much!

That doesn’t end with you being bald, right?
It doesn’t end with you being Brazilian, right?
My mom had one, it looked really nice, but I can’t really recall how long it lasted. They have a few different formulas and different salons offer different techniques. I’d imagine you can’t go wrong if you prefer your hair straight/sleek.
@Seek
No, why would it ? Did that happen to you? Why would I become bald ? Such a strange response.
@Dutchess_III
Well, that would be awesome if it did make me Brazilian, then I would get a FABULOUS tan ;)
@ANef_is_Enuf
Ahh awesome… Thanks for your response. Yeah, trying to go for that sleek look. I’m guessing your mom liked the results?
@FlutherBug They are just teasing with you. I had never heard of it and looked it up. It looks great. I would do it if I had curly hair.
@FlutherBug she did. Her hair is prone to frizz no matter what she puts in it, despite being soft and healthy. But the treatment helped a ton.
@FlutherBug I apologize. Yeah, I was just teasing and it sounded like a funny thing. I looked it up too. The ad says it lasts 12 weeks so I would imagine probably less than that.
@chyna
Yeah I kind of figured they were teasing, so I wrote something teasing back :D Heheh (You guys are a fun bunch) Much love
@janbb
No worries love, I knew you guys were joking, My responses were kind of teasing/sarcastic as well, Much Love to everyone :)
Can you give one to yourself at home with a kit?
My hair is short and frizzy curly and I would love to
have straight hair….at least for a while.
Is it damaging to your hair and how is it done?
@MooCows
I probably could, I’m sure there are kits to do it with… but I’m totally not a professional. So I’m going to a professional salon in LA to do it….. My hair is curly and very frizzy as well…. I always have to straighten it, put serum in it, etc…
As for the other questions, I’m not sure, I’ll let you know afterwards :D
It’s supposed to be really awesome and make your hair sleek / straight for 3 months…
@MooCows
Same here would be amazing to have sleek frizz free hair for 3 months! I’ll let you know afterwards how it is and if it is worth getting!
FlutherBug..is your hair long or short?
My hair is pretty short but still frizzy after
it grows out a little. If it was straighter
I would let it grow longer. I am in a small
town so don’t know if I would trust any of
these gals to do it!
@MooCows
My hair is shoulder length, so I guess medium length, not short but not super long either.
I’m getting hair extensions after the Brazilian Blowout. Then my hair will go down to my boobs.
Oh really?? Do you have a favorite salon to go to? Where you trust the ladies?
Do you straighten your hair ? Or just leave it naturally ? Do you put any frizz free serums in it ?
I can let you know afterwards if it’s worth getting :O
I totally understand where you are coming from…. My hair gets really frizzy too, it’s a pain. It takes me a long time to straighten / blow dry it to make it look sleek.
I’d recommend checking local reviews for the salon you will be using. Brazilian blow-outs were a thing here about three , maybe four, years ago. Some people got great results , some had bad reactions to the chemicals.
Definitely keep in mind that the sleekness only lasts til your hair starts to grow out – if your hair grows fast, you end up with a frizzy scalp-line in a couple of weeks. It’s an odd effect.
The only thing I can think of is waxing. Is that what this is about?? I can’t imagine looking at my moms or my daughters looking at mine
@Judi: Brazilian blow out is when someone has frizzy hair (on their head) and the stylist puts chemicals on it to straighten it, and they use blow dryer and brush to pull the hair straight.
I have straight hair but a friend used to get it done. It was a lot of money (200 bucks?) but her hair looked beautiful. She said the stylist used to really have to pull her hair with the brush, pulling and blowing it over and over and it seemed to be a lot of work. Her hair really was incredible. Without it, her hair is a frizzy mess.
Sorry @FlutherBug – I was making a bad joke about bikini waxing. My humor is a little off it’s normal sharp edge these days.
I had to look this up. Wow. So that’s why I’m suddenly seeing so many women here on the beaches with long, thick, beautiful, healthy looking hair. I was beginning to wonder.
It looks great, but evidently there is a downside (Isn’t there always?):
“Hair straightening sessions are injuring clients and making stylists sick, so why are they still offered in salons across the country?
“Many salons straighten and smooth hair with what they call “keratin smoothing formulations.” These lotions are often called “Brazilian Blowouts,” based on a popular brand’s name.
“The truth is, they contain as much as seven percent formaldehyde, a toxic chemical, which the U.S. government in 2011 designated a known human carcinogen. Formaldehyde also triggers allergic reactions. Therefore, salons in some countries are banned from offering the Brazilian Blowout.”
—from THIS article.
And THIS from the Huffington Post.
HERE is a list of articles both pro and con about the safety of the Brazilian Blowout.
The salon treatments take about 2hrs or more, depending on how much natural curl you have, and cost from $300 to $450 in the States. But you can buy a kit for anywhere from $30 to $120 and do it at home.
@FlutherBug @Seek question is valid. Anything that you could do to your hair to achieve that huge transformation, I’d be skeptical too. I recall on jelly who had a “relatively” routine process done to her hair who had the worst possible complications including hair loss AND had to have skin grafts to her scalp! Just saying.
LOL. Check out the pictures here Notice both the hairdresser and client are wearing respirators. For me, that would be a huge red flag. Respirators offer no protection from skin absorption of toxins. Big red flag.
I have a HS girlfriend who became a beautician. She’s done that for 40 years. About 4 years ago her dentist discovered cancer in her mouth. She’s a non-smoker.
My husband was in the hair styling industry for several years (it’s hard to reconcile that with the way he looks and as macho as he is!) and he immediately said, “Bet it was from all of the hair chemicals.”
@Seek Lol funny, yesterday I actually did get a Brazilian wax too :D lol
@Dutchess_III Yeah I get what you are saying. But I’ve had my curly hair for my entire life! Just want a little change! Tired of straightening and blow drying it :O Curly hair is beautiful. It’s just the frizz that I don’t like. Plus I do want that sleek model look.
@Dutchess_III I am so sorry to hear that. The salon I’m going to uses a formula that is formaldehyde free. Hopefully that will make a difference, but idk.
Probably from the hair chemicals. But honestly there is just so much crap out there in the world anyway. Makeup, our furniture, food, everything has everything.
I’ve had curly hair my entire life too. Here is one of the results…my oldest grand daughter!
We take enough chances on things we have to take a chance on, because it’s a necessity. I wouldn’t take the chance on something like a hair do. But that’s me. I’ve never really been into hair and clothes and make up. I just have, like a million pairs of shoes. I’ve never understood that about myself!
@Dutchess_III
Absolutely gorgeous! Wow! Great genes!!!
Shoes are wonderful :) :) :) !!!
@Dutchess_III “I just have, like a million pairs of shoes. I’ve never understood that about myself!” Perhaps you have a separate and megapedal personality. ;-)
Well, I talk to myself often about this, @Brian1946. We have yet to figure it out.
Mine isn’t as curly as my grand daughters. Good lord, that kid has HAIR!!!
While I haven’t had a Brazilian Blowout, I have had several Kerasilk treatments and absolutely love them. I get 2–3 a year and I appreciate the fact that it doesn’t make my hair pin straight, but still adds shine, softness, and manageability. Highly recommend.
@chyna Usually, a salon can charge anywhere from $300—$400 in NYC, which is ridiculous and simply not in my budget—especially 2–3x a year.
However, I save money by getting mine done at a local cosmetology school (Arrojo in TriBeCa) where I pay a small courtesy fee of $50 and usually leave a $10 tip.
