How was experience while shifting? Did you find any difficulties while moving your stuff from one location to another? Any funny incident you would like to share?

I’m good at moving, and very adaptable. Not that I enjoy all the packing and details but I have done it enough in the last 35 years to be very adept at it.
When I moved from my little divorce cottage to a new house about 10 years ago I had a moving co. move me. I had my 2 pet geese that I had had for years after living on rural properties and we put them in a tall wardrobe box with hay and bungie corded the box inside the back of the moving van.

The guys thought it was so funny I had pet geese that one of them called their mom and she met us at a mid-point ( only about a 30 mile move ) to see them. haha
I had a nice, new set up for them at the new house which was on 5 acres. There was an old, wooden horse corral and I had a contractor buddy wire it off with nice weld wire fencing and build them a nice little goose barn with his & hers stalls, shuttered wire mesh windows and a ” gooseport” to keep their food dry in the bad weather. They had big rubber stall mats under their his& hers swimming pools, beach umbrellas and I totally landscaped the corral which already had a big, shady Oak tree inside, with Smoke trees, exotic grasses, bamboos and I lay sod so they had their own little lawn area.

it was quite the fun little project and turned out great. Things middle aged women do for their pets. haha I will be moving again in a few weeks but, literally, right new door to a little pool house apartment on the property I now live on. I am excited about getting my nice bed and things out storage after 3.5 years of room mates and insanity after being tanked in the recession in 2013. I am very creative and a former Int. Design asst. and home stager and can make the funkiest dwelling a little show piece.

Once I moved cross country and asked the mover to deliver my truckload of belongings a month later, so I had time to find an apartment.

I found a place quickly and bought an inflatable mattress, a reading lamp, and a couple of chairs.

The simplicity was nice. It was kind of a sad day when my stuff showed up.

I just picked up and moved a couple of days ago. I expect to be away for minimum of 4 weeks.

1 Bag containing a new, vacuum-packed, five-pack of boxers, an extra pair of goretex cargo pants, two extra goretex cargo shirts, 2 pair of socks, sailing gloves, wash cloth, towel, maybe a couple of books, a pair of canvas deck shoes, a pair of swim trunks, 2 cotton T-shirts, a net ditty bag for laundry and 1 three-foot cable lock. On top is always a container of hi-cal dehydrated food.

In one end pocket a toiletry kit bag containing toenail cutters, toothpaste, toothbrush, deo, comb, extra reading glasses, small bottles of shampoo and conditioner. In the other end pocket is a headlamp for reading, small maglite, electrical adapters, converters, extra charger for phone and extra reading glasses and one of these. The front pocket contains an larger electric outlet strip, an extension cord, 1 18-inch laptop cable lock and one four foot cable lock for bikes or bags.

1 Shoulder Bag for laptop contains 2 laptops, chargers for laptops and phone, small USB keyboard light, USB cords, small electric outlet strip, 1 terabyte harddrive, flash drives, ear buds, small screwdriver set, small sketchbook, pens, pencils and small sketching stuff, paperwork, extra reading glasses, extra sun glasses and maybe a paperback.

Wallet, phone and passport are buttoned away in my breast pockets at all times. Booney hat. Sunglasses. Cargo pants and shirt. Flipflops.

Anything else I need I can buy on site. Cash is my friend. It has no bulk, is lightweight and can be traded for anything anywhere at anytime.

That’s it. Not very elegant, I know, but I’m comfortable, have everything I could possibly need and can move far and fast at a moment’s notice..

As for furniture, an air mattress for a bed, or a yoga mat, a folding chair and table serve as a desk setup, and cheap camping equipment serves as kitchenware. Coleman stove. A ½-gallon plastic milk bottle slipped over a 60 to 100 watt bulb serves as excellent general lighting. And everything can all be left behind if need be.

I moved from Ottawa to Windsor on the train, and carried everything with me, including my computer. My clothes went in one suitcase, my computer and peripherals went in another suitcase, and my jackets went in a suit bag with my flatscreen monitor. Everything else went in my pockets.

I try not to accumulate stuff. Furniture I collect from the trash as I need it.

Moving was always fun and exciting until I turned sixty. After that, they became totally exhausting to the point I had no business driving. I’d love to move now but for a few reasons I’m sort of stuck here. Because of that, I might live longer. lol And may I suggest that if you ever move to or from Arkansas that you put every possession you own that you value in your car? This last theft was heartbreaking. Hot Springs, Arkansas is a beautiful , fun, small town with more thefts per capita than anyplace I’ve ever lived. Hide, sell or glue down anything worth over a dime.
