Why does the two-finger scroll function on my trackpad quit occasionally?

Asked by Hawaii_Jake (37725points) October 9th, 2016

I have a Dell XPS 13 that is 1 year old. I’m running Windows 10.

When the computer has been on a long time, the ability to use 2 fingers to scroll on the screen quits. I also cannot touch the screen to scroll. It’s very interesting that both those functions are affected.

I have done some searches online, but the forums that I’ve found don’t help.

One more thing, it’s not permanent. After a while, the ability to do the two-finger scroll returns, and then again, it goes away after a while.

Do you know what’s going on, and do you know how I can fix it? Or can you find a forum or help page with the solution?

Do you burp it? You have to burp it occasionally. You gently bring it up to your shoulder and give it a few pats on the back. Then reboot and it should be fine.

I just read that the new preview (beta) version of Windows 10 includes touchpad improvements. Maybe you are experiencing the need for them.

I don’t know when the improvements might be rolled out as a general update.

Windows Blog
“Refining your precision touchpad experience: Based on the feedback we have received, we have made some adjustments to our gesture and click detection on precision touchpads. This includes enhancing detection and disambiguation of left and right clicks, making two finger taps and clicks a bit easier, reducing false positives in our two-finger tap detection and improving our pinch to zoom detection. We have also made algorithm changes in an effort to reduce inadvertent zooming when panning.”
