Can ideas be "ostracized," or only people?
Helping my DIL with a research paper she’s writing for an English class. It’s about three of the most influential developers of early childhood educations. She notes, “Dr. Maria Montessori’s ideas were ostracized early on, but they regained popularity after her death.”
Can ideas be ostracized? I don’t think they can, but I don’t know why! I am certain y’all will tell me though.

You can only ostracize someone. Ignored would be better.

I thought about this one for a bit.
An idea cannot be ostracized. A subject could be considered taboo,or even illegal in some countries. But an idea, or concept is hard to cast out.
That’s why things like ISIS are impossible to stomp out. If all ISIS members dropped dead today, tomorrow someone could adhere to their beliefs, and proclaim themselves a member /supporter.
I hear dissent is such a big deal in North Korea, that if you are suspected of it you and several generations of your family are sent to prison camps. * I cannot verify that…
But such behavior probably only strengthens the resolve of those opposed to their leaders.
One might say,I suppose, that attempts to ostracize ideas,or styles of thinking makes the taboo subject more appealing to consider, or discuss.
Trying to suppress thought is like trying to hold a handful of water. The tighter you squeeze your fist, the more it slips out.
GQ though.
Sure. That’s what Political Correctness is all about.
