Is anyone talking about what it means that Gary Johnson is at 9% in the polls?

If I remember right, if a party gets 5% they are eligible for matching federal funds in the next election.
Is this the powerful emergence of a third party? Will Libertarians fracture the Republican Party? Will they replace the Republican Party?
Where do you see American politics in 4,8, or 12 years?

His standing is as a protest vote, not the adoption of a new political philosophy.

The Libertarians have not done the necessary work to establish a party. It isn’t a presidential candidate that is needed, it is legislature candidates that have done the hard work of City Councils, County Boards, and school boards.

If they could get even 2 Senators or even 10 Representatives to switch parties to Libertarian, then they would be seen as a real force.

it means that millions of people wasted all sorts of money backing him, when he is, by all accounts, an utter failure as a candidate.

Get some down-ballot Libertarian representation going and they might be on to something.

(same thing for the Greens)

Not much it seems.

It means that there’s a whole hell of a lot of people who don’t like either ofthe major party’s candidates.
