What should I buy the house as some additional holiday decor?

Coloma brought up in ‘TJBM’ thread about buying something for the house, and I answered I haven’t, but I should and I want to, and specifically for the holidays. We’re pagan/atheists and super science and sci fi geeks in the house. We celebrate solstice and not this, ‘Jonny-come-lately’ Jesus guy’s birthday, (but power to those who do and all the other stuff). I could use a top for my tree or a tree skirt. Something that lights in the window would be nice too. THIS GUY https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/564x/7f/22/f0/7f22f039eb138979464891714cbe1657.jpg would be right up our alley, but alas, not available anymore. Anyone got any ideas or suggestions? (Keep in mind, I live in Norway, so anything thing that plugs into the wall has to be European compatible.)

I like hanging Xmas type lights indoors and, I saw a cool flood light yesterday that you could use indoors or out for a multi-colored snowfall pattern on your walls or outside of the house.
I have a cool strand of blue led lights around the mirror in my bathroom. They look really cool at night. Creative lighting is always a fun thing to do.
With the dark here in the winter, creative lighting is always a happy addition.

A Wicker Man, with added fake flames for dramatic effect…
@ucme you like 1973 horror stories not based in any truth? Hilarious.
That was stunningly specific & it was quite funny, especially the singing
I like lots of lights, especially candles. I have some seasonal-design candle holders and others that are fine anytime, little lamps and decorative glass cylinders and candlesticks and more. I buy boxes of 50 tea candles, ten at a time, and dozens of 12-inch tapers in various colors. I use them all year round.
During the dark season especially, no matter what kind of religious, traditional, or scientific bulwarks you use against the dark, there’s nothing more magical than candles.
Since Diwali falls around the same time, I tend to focus on lights. Candles, lanterns, funky patterned lights. I like to have different sizes of hanging lanterns around that hold different sizes of candles. Some are on floor stands, other are table top styles. I’ve got some great 1970’s wrought iron candle stands – about 3 feet tall – that we hauled back from Germany back in the day – they hold big fat candles and really warm up the space – literally and figuratively.
Yep. I have loads of candles. I put tea lights everywhere. Just bought some bass cleaner to polish up the four candle sticks I use during Jule. I’m thinking of buying more battery operated candles. Better for the air quality inside and the environment.
I’ve seen strands of 5 pointed stars that light up that you can put hanging vertically in the window. I don’t know if they are available in Norway.

A friend of mine uses a ton of lights on her Christmas trees. She is sure to put the lights from very close to the tree trunk to the ends of the needles. They are beautiful. All white lights on one, and then just two colors of balls. The other all red lights. She has two trees every year.
Not holiday related, but: If you don’t have lights under and over your kitchen cabinets that’s a great way to create indirect lighting when you are adjacent to the kitchen if your kitchen is open to your living room. It helps when you are preparing food too for more lighting on your countertop. You can use Christmas lights or buy the special lights made for that.
Hanging lights for the windows sounds a winner.
When I bought the place, BBE and I redid the under cupboard lighting and now this last time he was here he and I extended it to a ceiling over the counter behind the chimney because the light just there is bad all year round. It’s made a huge difference to the feel of the space. I kid that I live in a cave, but it sort of is.
We go 100% gaudy in my house. All the decorations and lights you can imagine. We have a couple of rental properties and my husband clears them out between tenants. They always leave the christmas decs behind. We have at least 6 tenants worth of decs. I love it but it all comes down on New Year’s Day. Party time is over.
So more is more. Buy everything!
One year I decorated a big indoor palm tree with purple glass balls and white lights. It looked really nice! If you have any good sized houseplants string lights on them.
Watched The Wicker Man again tonight, best bits are the ending & of course, Britt Ekland’s impressive titties.
Christopher Lee is fantastic. And yes, boobs.
I’m not watching it again. It was awful.
In the woods there grew a tree
And a very fine tree was he
And on that tree there was a limb
And on that limb there was a branch
And on that branch there was a spray
And on that spray there was a nest
And in that nest there was an egg
And in that egg there was a bird
And on that bird there was a feather
And on that feather was a bed
And on that bed there was a girl
And on that girl there was a man
And from that man there was a seed
And from that seed there was a boy
And from that boy there was man
And from that man there was a grave
And on that grave there grew a tree
In the Summerisle wood
:D
@ucme – Have you seen the utter blasphemy that was the Nicholas Cage remake?
You know what would be fun?
Change out the religious holidays. Decorate Easter in December and Christmas in April. Totally tongue-in-cheek it and go full bore. ALL your decorations can be brand new and 75% off. lol
You’d be the talk of the town.
I like our celebrations as they are. Christmas is Jul here. I’m not putting any tongue in cheek. And Easter is pagan. We celebrate the return of the sun and the fertility of the Earth being reborn. I don’t ask you to change around your celebrations. You’d take it as being rude. Don’t give a shit what Christians do and wouldn’t ask them to change their things.
@Seek No chance, I refuse to allow any soiling of the original to enter my head
@cazzie That’s an awesome tree skirt.
…and on that tree there was a skir…<giggles>
Cute!
Looks like the design is papercuts attached to a thin sheet of plastic. Totes doable for your awesome, creative self.
I have all the materials except the actual glass baubles. I think some of it is even directly drawn on the transparency. Oh, it’s given me all sorts of ideas. Firefly, Dr. Who, Star Trek…....
