[Fluff time] When you were young what did you dress up as most for Halloween?
When I was a child I guess I dressed up most as some super hero but I can’t recall which today. By age eleven or twelve I had pretty much gave up on going trick or treating. Can you remember; were you a popular TV character, super hero, you made up your own costume? If you are going to a Halloween masquerade parties what will you be dress up or costumed as?

A zombie, complete with holes in my hands, and a thorny wreath on my head, groaning “I will swallow your soul”.
I remember being a bunny, a cat, a witch, a gypsy, a bum (what we called “bum” in those days).
As a child I was I was a bumble bee, butterfly, flower, clown, and a witch (turns out I didn’t like being a witch). As an adult I’ve been a cat more than once.
I’ve always done something different, and sometimes more than one costume in a year.
I can remember, in no particular order…
A pumpkin
Princess Jasmine
A bride
A black cat
A devil
A vampire
A zombie
A witch
A Victorian ghost
An 80s rock star
A hippie
A hillbilly
A blue M&M
A Vulcan
A Jedi
A warrior elf
Princess Peach
The Princess and the Pea (infant Ian was the Pea pod)
Queen Galadriel
A pirate
A masquerade guest
A broken porcelain doll
Stevie Nicks
An evil fairy (that was a great one)
And this year I’ll be a corpse. Ian is dressing as Death, and I’ll be in chains and a shroud
As a child/youth I think I tended to go with some version of a princess.
I got more creative and competitive over the years. Some of my favourites have been group costumes – cast of Wizard of Oz, laundry day. I did the Carol Burnett curtains as dress one year – that won a few prizes. The Old Man at the Arena was also worth a few gift certificates.
Oh yeah! One year in high school a bunch of us did the Rocky Horror Picture Show cast. I was Columbia.
Ha! I was Magenta in our group RHPS costume.
It’s been far, far, far too long for me to remember for sure, but I’m sure my childhood hero Superman was at least one of my Halloween personas, costume consisting of dad’s boxers over pants, t-shirt with large S, towel for a cape, socks… and (ugh) shoes.
The shoes were a condition demanded by my mom. Despite my protests that Superman didn’t wear shoes, she insisted that HER little superman did.
A Jawa, because my parents made me an awesome Jawa costume with lightbulb eyes that could almost have been used in the film.
@Seek ”[...] infant Ian was the pea pod”
That’s an overdose of cuteness.
I never repeated a costume until after high school.
Kindergarten: Bugs Bunny
1rst Grade: Fairy; totally my mom’s choice.
2nd Grade: Skeleton; though I was embarrassed by it because I had to wear plain white face paint that looked idiotic since my mom refused to allow me to wear a mask.
3rd Grade: Nala from The Lion King
4th Grade: a witch
5th Grade: A Green M&M
6th Grade: The thing from Scream although I’ve never seen the films hehe.
7th Grade: The devil to my best friend’s angel (though I was unhappy that it was a female designed costume which was a dress garment because it was all the store had I dealt with it because we’d intended the complimentary theme).
8th Grade: A surgeon.
9th Grade: a bat
10th Grade: Scooby Doo but a costume homemade by a friend which I’m sorry to say was kinda bad.
11th Grade: The Cat in the Hat
12th Grade: A werewolf.
The only costume I’ve ever repeated which has been in recent years is a vampire. I have all the stuff and it’s totally reusable so it’s just easy and inexpensive.
Though this year I’m wearing a skeleton long-sleeved shirt, gloves and a mask. Not the best put together costume but it’s something, I’d waited until a little too late. I’ll get as elaborate with it as I’d intended next year.
Ghosts with a sheet with holes . I went as He -Man in grade school and Drizzt Du’urden in university. I went as an escaped mental patient in second year.
::Edit:: My avatar is now of my kids when they were younger recently changed from a Halloween mask type thingy
I never repeated a costume exactly, but I had several different superhero costumes different years. Superhero costumes were my favorite. :D
My youthful faves were mostly characters that used a box over my head and sometimes body – I won a contest one year as a transistor radio (it actually worked, too, with an actual radio and a speaker built into it).
