What is the best printer for $125 or less?

Asked by Hawaii_Jake (37734points) October 28th, 2016

I had a Canon printer for years that was still working very well. I moved and bought a new computer, so I got a new Epson printer to go with it. The Epson does not print as well as the old Canon did.

The old Canon was a wired printer. I bought it in 2007.

The new Epson operates over WiFi, which gives me few problems. I have friends who have terrible problems with the WiFi connectivity.

But the printed pages and pictures are very low quality.

What do you know about printers? Which is best for a reasonable amount of money?

Do you need an “All-in-one” for faxing and scanning?

I’ve had great luck with HP (yes the ink maybe expensive), but I still use a HP printer Photosmart 3300 from 2005. It does great prints of photos.

HP Office Jet 6978 for “all-in -one” on sale at Staples for $99.99

HP Officejet Pro 6230 Inkjet ePrinter $99.99.

Use an Ethernet cord to plug into your router direct, WiFi and Blu Tooth are sketchy at best.

I too have always had great luck with HP, from their lowest priced ones to the most expensive. Most printers have more or less the same mechanics these days, by the way, so you can’t really go wrong. Just be sure to get one with all the features you need.

I do not need to fax.

I’m allergic to HP, but I will look at them.

Mine is a Canon. I can print from my phone. Pictures are of medium quality, but all other printing is great quality. I bought mine 2 years ago. The ink is about 45.00 for both black and color.

Do not get an inkjet. Just don’t. They suck. They cost more to operate than a laser.

If you want to print photos, send them to Walgreens online and pick them up later. It’s cheaper.

Brother makes good cheap laser printers.

If you want a scanner/printer the Brother HL-L2380DW is $129 right now at Best Buy. I got one for $99 on a previous sale for my mother. Really nice machine. It connects by Wifi or USB or Ethernet. It prints duplex and has a 250-sheet paper tray.

The printer-only equivalent is the Brother – HL-L2360DW, it’s $99 right now.

Brother – HL-L2320D

Printers are cheap—they practically give them away. It’s the toner or the ink where they get you. I have a Samsung network wireless black and white laser printer and it works well. Agree on the inkjet thing unless you absolutely have to have color for whatever reason.

@Hawaii_Jake I have been very happy with my Canon printers. (seems I had an epson once not so good) I’ve had this Canon for maybe 3 years. Long enough I can get generic ink refills. It was about $110.
