I’d call it a You-Think-I-Think Tank.

There are a lor of smart folk here indeed, and often enough ideas are exchanged, various subjects are thoroughly discussed, but the majority of the content here is presentation of opinion, bitching about religion and humor. It is not a think tank in the proper sense of the word, but rather a very normal online community, with a lot of smart people.

There are certain members who I can think of who bring a lot of intellectual finesse here, or who like to explore different subjects but this never seemed to me to be the primary reason for Fluther’s existence. At least not in the time that I have been here.

Mind, this is not criticism or whining about the place. If I’m not happy I’ll fuck off, as I’ve done so before. But mostly I appreciate the site, just chilling around, don’t always feel like reading essays and big complicated stuff when I come back from work and come on here.

Not remotely.

The theme here is Jellyfish, so it’s closer to being a fish tank.

To me it might be more like a “thtink tank”!~

Are you hoping to use it as a reference for when you apply for your big Think Tank job?

The problem is that THEY would need to consider Fluther as a think tank. Ha ha. Not gonna happen.

You understand they, at the “Think Tank”, know who they want to hire.
It is not a “fill out the application” type job.

And besides, we don’t get the big buck$;!

I think it was at some point. I am not so sure now. Generally, I think if you get a lot of the same people answering questions the think tank element is lost. I’ve seen some good questions lately where people could have really knuckled down and thought about it and answered with gravity.

I find I learn a lot about myself and others if I really do read the question then answer.

The trend can often be flip and witty or even silly at times. I do long for and enjoy the great answers that still exist even if at times a bit thin on the ground.
