What are some meals I can make for myself that won't irritate my stomach?

Asked by Wicketstar (11points) November 4th, 2016

I’m 21 and I was told by my doctor that I either have an ulcer or Gastritis (which runs in my family). They put me on antacids for the time being but I was told to limit my diet.
Meaning I can’t have anything super acidic (lemon, mint, onion, citrus etc), greasy/fatty (red meat, most dairy), spicy (pepper, chiles), high in sodium (a lot of spices), or anything with caffeine or alcohol.

I’m having trouble coming up with different meals that meet all those requirements. I love salad, and low fat/sodium dressings are okay. But vegetables make it hard to fill myself and I’m finding it very difficult to mix it up. I have to eat like this for a few weeks. Does anyone have suggestions for what I could make myself during this time?
I would also love if someone could tell me what spices would be alright to flavor my meals with and if there are any good food substitutions for what I listed?

Starch.
Potatoes, pasta and bread. Dress them as your stomach sees fit.
Pork loin also seems to fit the bill, so a stir fry would be in order. Chicken or turkey breast as well. You need almost no grease for stir fry.
Welcome.

Rice . White or brown.

Or grits. You can add anything to grits.

Beans prepared in ways to reduce their ability to cause gas. I’ve heard that serving beans in the liquid they were cooked in can increase the gas that builds up. Remove the liquid, and the beans cause less gas. Add your own, non volitile spices.

If you don’t feel good enough to cook. Get some plain white rice from your local Asian restaurant. Then get Tysons chicken in a can (low sodium, if available. )

Sometimes I’ll just mash up a slice of bread, and eat it. You’ll need water.

Good luck.

Peace n love.

Try a baked potato—but leave off the butter and sour cream. Microwaving saves cooking time but I think oven baking produces better taste.

I get thin boneless chicken breasts, dip them in olive oil and then Italian flavored bread crumbs and bake at 375 for about 25 minutes. Easy and delicious.

Were you tested for H. Pylori? I know that’s not your question, but I hope they bothered to test you for the thing that might be causing your ulcers.

Do you take any medicines that might be causing your ulcers?

As far as food avoid sweets, foods high in acids (citrus, tomato) and very spicy foods. Keep a food diary so you can narrow down what aggravates the condition.

I am in the same boat as you….I splurge on Chicken Picatta but switch lime for lemon, coconut almond encrusted cod is yummy, make vegetable soups and stews you slow cook all day and have leftovers all week, give smoothies a try they will be your new best friend. I found white pizzas to be agreeable with me. My fav is ham. spinach, pineapple and garlic with olive oil dressing. Use your imagination….it will work out for you if you do.

I have really bad acid and I can’t eat pasta, though I do… but boiled chicken and veges, rice is really good, sauerkraut, smoothies worked for me but for lunch or dinner, not breakfast as it’s too hard on my stomach first thing, also try slippery elm though I don’t as I’m too lazy. I’m always unsure about lemon as in the body it’s not acidic it turns alkaline so… love to know what others think about lemon?

Substitute whole milk, cream, or egg wash for oil when dipping meat or fish before baking. Not adding oil, and losing too much weight may be an issue before you’re done.

This is a great product that allows oils from the meat to drain away.

Skinless, boneless, chicken breast soaked in milk and breaded in a Panko/Italian spice blend could be amazing baked on that mat.
