Well, he is better than the other choices that have been floated. But he is not particularly strong on foreign policy. Being on the local Olympic Organizing Committee doesn’t make one a diplomat.
Fuck me yeah, just as I think it couldn’t get any funnier, up pops Mitt the shit…make it happen.
Surely there’s someone who is actually qualified for the position?
I like Romney. I was disappointed that his base pulled him to the right from his original centrist roots (just as I was disappointed that Clinton was pulled to the left).
But I have doubts that it would happen. Romney has been openly critical of Trump since the beginning and was one of the Republicans with the courage to continue to stand against him.
@Rarebear Politicians make strange bedfellows as they say. I was reading earlier the story that gave this newsflash in how just 4 short years ago Trump was a big Romney supporter. Trump attacked the Republican establishment and Romney reacted to that attack. The war is over and Romney even called to congratulate him. I’d like to think that Republicans will support the Trump administration and if the ones with the right experience are picked for a cabinet position that they serve we the people. I am not sure Romney has the background to be Secretary of State….but I said that about Hillary too.
That sounds better to me than Giuliani. I don’t hate Giuliani or anything, but I didn’t see him as Sec’y of State. I thought Trump would put Giuliani in Homeland Security or FEMA or something else I haven’t thought of.
@Cruiser I thought Clinton was a mediocre Sec State. However, I thought she was an excellent senator. Oh well, we’ll never know how she would have been as President.
@JLeslie Giuliani is an ass.
Romney’s domestic policies sucked, big time. Not his international ones.
But secretary of state, an international-looking position, is not bad. As a Mormon, he has exposure to different cultures – many Mormons do their year out of the country. One of the best ambassadors we have ever had – Jon Huntsman – was also from Utah and also a Mormon.
Romney would be a good choice, I think. And oceans better than Giuliani.
@Rarebear He certainly has been an ass recently. Pompous ass.
I’m not crazy about Romney, but I do believe he will at least try his best for our Nation and is probably more knowledgeable than any them. He looks like a Saint next to any of those guys. And he had guts to stand up against Trump. Which is why I think it will never happen. Trump can’t handle truth.
If it wasn’t for the fact that he has a reputation (not saying it’s justified or not) as an anti-Semite, Barack Obama could have been a good SoS.
@josie What is an SoS? Do you mean SOS like in Morse code? PM me if you can’t post it here.
@josie I don’t think Obama has a reputation for being antisemetic. He does have a reputation for having poor relations with Israel and he does not get along with Netanyahu at all.
@josie Now it makes sense. Maybe I need to rethink the brain question I answered earlier on another post.
@Rarebear
Yes he does. But no sense fighting over what the evidence presents
