Is there a way to download more emojis?

Asked by JLeslie (65743points) November 20th, 2016 from iPhone

My iPhone comes with a bunch of emojis, but there are symbols I’d like to have that aren’t there. Is there a way to get more? Assuming what I want exists?

I’d like a Micky Mouse, a Chanukah Menorah, and maybe an Elvis. A sunshine state oranges symbol too as I think about it.

Thanks!

A quick Google search told me that those things can be obtained from apps. Maybe you can do a search on your app store and download the necessary apps.

No. emoji are defined by the Unicode consortium as part of the international standard on how text is encoded and displayed. Companies are allowed a little freedom in how they interpret things for example Apple represent the gun emoji as a water pistol but you cant create new emoji without the approval of unicode. If you did there would be no guarantee that they would display correctly when you sent them to someone else.

@Lightlyseared is correct. It is like fonts. You can have a million fonts and that font must be installed on the recipients end for it to properly display. But with fonts it will generally default if the font isn’t installed. That can’t really happen with emoji.

Menorah is on my phone.
I doubt Disney would allow Mickey. Ditto the Presley estate.

I had those embedded in links, and Fluther would not post them. Probably because there were Emojis included that Fluther does not support.

The cheat-sheet site appears to let you suggest Emojis that the developers will write and submit.
