How do you feel about your cordless vacuum cleaner?

Asked by Aster (20028points) November 20th, 2016

I don’t mean the little ones for stairs or the floors of your car. I mean the five feet tall vacuums for carpeting. Do you like yours? I bought one over amazon after reading the rave reviews of it on JC Penny’s website. I’ll get it tomorrow or Tuesday.

I don’t have one but QVC had the Dyson Animal and it looked very appealing. They demonstrated with a tube that was 2 to 3 feet long and they put feathers in the bottom of the tube. They put the Dyson on top of the tube and it sucked the feathers up. They also talked about how it’s lightweight, etc.

@jca I do not wish to blow much cash on one. I can buy them for under forty dollars or shoot for the Dyson at God knows how much money. The one I got was $84.

I’ve bought several cordless models—one of them a ridiculously expensive Dyson—and always was disappointed with the performance. (Dyson’s advertising is tempting but I don’t think their vacuum lives up to it.)

Little hand vacs are okay for small pickup jobs but I’ll stick with corded ones for floors and especially carpets.

I was very tempted to buy the Roomba. I found a good sale price at Kohl’s but then decided against it. I worry about it getting caught on a string or something and starting a fire when I’m not home. I lived in a building that burned in a fire once and I am very into being careful about potential for fires.

^^I’m paranoid about fires too. You could just run it when you’re home.

@JLeslie: Definitely, but that seems like it defeats the purpose. I think part of the pleasure of the Roomba is it can run and clean when you’re not home and so you’re out of its way.

Interesting. I never thought about running it while out. I would worry it might get stuck in a corner or something. I thought of it more like a washing machine. It’s on while you can also do other things.
