How could anyone be surprised about the results of the election when "The Simpsons" and Duck Dynasty are among the top rated shows on TV?

Asked by YARNLADY (46618points) November 25th, 2016

Not to mention Keeping Up With The Kardashians and Here Comes Honey Boo Boo, and the fact that more people follow porn on the internet than any other subject.

Not really, sad isn’t it?
And people still insist we are not being dumbed down, from a society that we would rather text the people we are not with than talk to the people are are with.

Precisely why I will probably never live in the States again. The country is led by and packed with stupid, spoiled, ignorant, snarky, supremely delusional people. Half have shown themselves to be thugs and the other half helpless, self-absorbed, passive neurotics right off a Seinfeld set afraid to judge others, make harsh decisions, or take a stand. Gee, I wonder which of the two will dominate American society?

No, I see it as a larger true in life example of this microcosm, look at the popular questions here? One could draw a near perfect bee line between the two. That is probably more telling than not having a worthy candidate to vote for.

@YARNLADY Fascinating question! I was not at all surprised! But then, I’ve never seen Duck Dynasty, or The Simpsons or anything akin to Keeping up with the Kardashians. Talk about “dumbed down”!

Simpsons porn?! Where?! Come to me, Neddy, ooooh yeah!!

But the majority of the people did not vote for Trump.

YARNLADY's avatar

@si3tech Neither have I. I had to go to wikipedia to find their names. : )

@Dutchess_III “The majority of the people voted for Hilary”. The grass roots, constitutional loving, law and order abiding, Bill of Rights loving, sick of the lawlessness, had it with not being represented/heard, honoring our forefathers people voted tor Donald J Trump.

Dutchess_III's avatar

I don’t even know what you’re talking about @si3tech. As of Nov 23rd Hillary received over 2 million more votes than Trump did.

This may portend the end of the electoral college.

Tropical_Willie's avatar

@Dutchess_III It has to be a Constitution Amendment to remove the EC. You understand the the people shaking their heads at what happened (in certain key states) and THEY didn’t vote. Apathy will cause the downfall of a government (Third Reich) not a parallel just what happens when people look the other way or don’t exercise there rights.

Dutchess_III's avatar

And that amendment may happen this year.

Tropical_Willie's avatar

Check which political party is in charge of Senate, House of Representatives and White House.

Then rethink ”amendment may happen this year

I resent The Simpsons being lumped in with this other crap; there is really no comparison. In fact, The Simpsons often intelligently parodies politics and current events, something that can’t be said for this reality show trash. Yes, I agree that Americans watch a lot of stupid TV and it doesn’t reflect well on our national intelligence, but let’s not drag a great show like The Simpsons through the mud when we clearly know nothing about it and have never seen it.

YARNLADY's avatar

@DominicY I tried to watch it once, but I couldn’t stand to sit through it. It’s clearly not my cup of tea.

Berserker's avatar

It’s a very intelligent cartoon. Older episodes anyway, haven’t watched much passed 2005, or about there.

The more I’m reading about the Duck, the more my heart is sinking, sinking. He’s trying to get back to campaigning, and crowd adulation, rather than stepping up and taking charge.
He’s loading his staff with multi-millionaires and billionaires.

Espiritus_Corvus's avatar

What the hell is Duck Dynasty?

SQUEEKY2's avatar

@Espiritus_Corvus Google it or look it up on you tube, it is a show that is as dumb as honey boo boo.
to answer your question it is a reality tv show that people seem to love and I can’t figure out why.

Dutchess_III's avatar

That some people seem to love. Not this person. I don’t think I’ve ever seen it.

Berserker's avatar

I don’t know what it is either. At first glance it looks like hunters going out to shoot ducks, but that probably isn’t it. There is also a video game based on this show.

It’s glorifying redneck culture, I think. There are some good things about being a red neck, but there are some awful, ignorant things too. I think DD glorifies the awful and the ignorant.
