He wants to reduce the amount of senators and representatives, but he wants the senators to be appointed not voted in. I don’t know all the other details. What do you think?

Italy’s current government structure is screwed up and has been for 100 years.
So how can this be worse?
The Italian Senate has 315 members. That is for a country smaller than California. Way too unwieldy.
The idea of Senators being appointed isn’t necessarily a bad one. That’s how we did it in this country until 1913.
@Darth_Algar – true, but that was a sure way to have the elites be in charge forever. Senators were not responsible to voters in the old way. (Not that they are now…)
@elbanditoroso ” Senators were not responsible to voters in the old way.”
Indeed they weren’t. That’s not a bad thing. In fact, I think it should go back to that. We need one body of legislature who aren’t beholden to the fickle whims of a waffling public.
I’m all for Renzi’s reforms, including this one. It’ll make the country more governable. They need much more institutional stability than they have. The “no” is unfortunately leading at the polls, and benefits from the Brexit, the Trump vote, etc.
