(NSFW) Do you care if the actors in the porn you watch use condoms? (Details )

Asked by MrGrimm888 (19541points) December 1st, 2016

I’ve heard this topic discussed before. Each time, the overwhelming majority opine they don’t enjoy watching pornography in which a man is wearing a condom….

I agree. I don’t know why. But I prefer my porn actors to be ‘bare back.’

I’m not trying to get too vulgar here. I’m more curious about yes, or no.

Depending on results, there may be another thread addressing the ‘reason.’

I bring it up because I read an article that seemed to say porn actresses will have to wear goggles, and actors will always be required to have condoms, among many other stipulations about worker’s rights.

Would you still enjoy pornography ,if the girls had goggles and gloves, and the men wore condoms?

Proposition 60, which was on the California Ballot last month, would have required use of condoms in all porn involving a penis. It was soundly defeated.

Interesting question. France has such a law – any porn filmed in France that shows male penetration; the guy has to wear a condom. They seem to use pinkish-orange ones presumably to simulate being flesh color; but they’re pretty obvious. But French films tend to have more plot than American porn films.

However, there is no barrier protection on oral sex scenes, and there are a raft of diseases that can be transmitted orally. So the condom idea is half-assed at best.

In the US, it seems like the actors/actresses have it pretty well under control through their own organizations. I have read that there are strict testing rules in the US porn industry. And condoms create their own health problems – chafing from the latex that creates open sores on prolonged retakes.

Read all the Prop 60 material – the actors – the ones with the most at stake, were vehemently against a condom requirement.

Yeah, it’s a pretty self-regulating business here in the States. At least among the professionals. I don’t think there’s any specific written regulations regarding, say, HIV tests, but most studios won’t hire, and most actors/actresses won’t work with someone who doesn’t get tested regularly.

The goggles thing is just weird.. I’m not into facials at all, but if someone wanted to see that, I imagine they’d source their porn from somewhere that didnt make the actors wear construction headgear.

I don’t care to watch porn, no need when you are stimulated plenty enough in the flesh so to speak.

Porn is a sore point to me for many reasons.

Yes, I prefer condoms. Many women and men are HIV positive in the Porn industry because of this preference that they do not use condoms. One actress of 18 performed in one movie and became HIV positive.

The industry is not very regulated which results in abuse. Abuse and pressure put on females and men too, to perform. If they are not prepared to go one level further they are dumped. Anal is big right now, amongst other things and this is more riskier as we know.

I think after finding the site dedicated to helping women in the industry, porn has become stomach churning for me. Plus, the knowledge that Britain has one of the highest addiction rates amongst teens, for watching porn.

Many actors take breaks whilst various other infections are healing due to the no condom rule.

Porn is Okay only when all the people involved are safe. Most are not.

Maybe I don’t have a wide enough world view but hasn’t it all been done before?
Is there even a demand for new porn? Yes, I know billions of hours per day are spent watching it but would anyone notice if the stuff was a year or 2 old? Does anyone say: “Oh. Out of the 100,000 videos on this channel I remember seeing this one before. I guess it won’t work for me now. ” Isn’t there enough free stuff already out there right so even the horniest horndog could spend 1000 lifetimes watching 24/7?
Avenue Q
Stuff from the 80’s is different because of the big hair. (in several places). But that was 3 decades ago!

@LuckyGuy – couldn’t you make the same statement about movies, books, or even music?

After all, there are only 8 notes in a musical scale. Haven’t all the combinations been used before?

Porn is popular because it’s visual, familiar, and entertaining (and sometime, erotic).

But I think that the key point is: It’s a commercial medium. People want to pay for it and consume it. The market – capitalism – says “give people what they want, sell it, and profit from it”.

So what if it’s repetitive? People pay for it.

LuckyGuy's avatar

@elbanditoroso “So what if it’s repetitive? People pay for it.” Exactly!
If new porn has to be shot with condoms, rubber gloves, face shields and safety glasses and that detracts from the scene, so what? There is plenty of old stuff that they have not seen. It is endless already.

Actually, why does anyone pay when there is so much free already? There are 100s of thousands on “Redacted” in scores of categories and types. And it is free.
I know people pay but I don’t understand why. Really.
Is the acting better?

Seek's avatar

People pay for their favorite actors, their favorite fetishes, full length movies instead of clips, better quality production, or any number of things.

It’s a bit like asking why anyone goes to the theatre if they could just watch YouTube instead.

MrGrimm888's avatar

^Yup. Variety seems to be important.

LuckyGuy's avatar

Isn’t a selection of 100,000 free videos covering 99.9% of the Rule 34 topics enough?
Are people paying for the 0.1%.

Darth_Algar's avatar

Blockbuster and it’s kind have all died off, but there are still porn rental shops around. A lot of people will still pay for a porn DVD (whether rental or purchased) because they’re weary of porn sites. They’re afraid of getting some virus on their computer, don’t want to chance coming across something that may not necessarily be legal or consensual, or they simply don’t want any of that in their computer’s history. Or maybe they just have one computer in the entire house and it’s in the family room and is used by everyone – themselves, the spouse, the kids, and the dog. So they’ll go to the adult store, get their porn there and view in their at night after the kids have gone to bed.

That alone will keep the production of new pornography going because the shops aren’t going to keep around stock that’s decades old.

There are 819,417,600 videos on Youtube. With that selection, why did anyone pay go see Star Wars: The Force Awakens or The Martian at the movies?

LuckyGuy's avatar

Because the subject matter, plot, special effects, story line, etc, are different from what can be seen every day?

Seek's avatar

Bingo.

MrGrimm888's avatar

So. Why can I watch Jaws like 170 times, and still be entertained by it. But I get tired of the same porno scenes?

ragingloli's avatar

because there is something wrong with you.
170 times? once is enough for that one.

MrGrimm888's avatar

^No. It used to scare me when I was little. Now it’s like a comfortable old story that I love hearing and seeing. It’s an excellent movie, with good characters. Anyway, there are lots of movies I could watch over and over again.
