Cheerleading isn’t a sport…
It’s athletic and requires talent, but so does ballet. Cheerleading is closer to a dance performance.
How about chess or hot dog eating competitions?
I agree with @gorillapaws . This is as silly as Rhythmic Gymnastics and Synchronized Swimming being in the Olympics..
In my opinion, the only athletic events that should be in the olympics are the ones in which the winner can be determined by an objective method (point total, best time, best score etc.) and not the subjective whim of a panel of judges.
I’m staying away from this because we’ve been here before & some idiots will argue over fucking leap frog being a sport, can’t be doing with it.
@josie I mostly agree with you big fella, but boxing has a panel of judges, they don’t know their arse from their elbow so I suppose you could call that a whim.
@ucme
And for that reason, I think there is a legitimate debate about olympic boxing.
Having said it, since they changed the scoring system, and since it is a one on one contest, and since the scores are picked randomly from 3 out of 5 judges, and since the gloves are marked to indicate scoring area, thus giving at least some hint at objectivity, I am still OK with boxing.
I don’t really see cheerleading as an Olympic sport but I suspect it’s one of those events that funds the event.
That being said, I’m not a fan of the big industry of the Olympics. The whole thing is a media/entertainment mess.
Swimming, running, jumping, throwing. That’s pretty much it for me for Olympic sports.
@josie Plus they got rid of the pussy headguards, at least on the men.
