What's your favorite song from a musical?
I’m pretty into “Worst Pies In London” from Sweeney Todd. But I definitely think Helena Bonham Carter did it way better than Patti LuPone.

“On My Own” from Les Mis. and then going waaaayyyy back “I’m Gonna’ Wash that Man Right Out of My Hair” from South Pacific. My mom & dad worked in the theater and I grew up with lots and lots of show tunes.
Though I think since one of my best buddies was in Taboo, I’d get my butt kicked if I didn’t say a song from that one, so Petrified and Out of Fashion from Taboo.
I’m a fan of “Pinball Wizard” from Tommy. One of my friends was in that musical. =)
Impossible to pick just one.
Sound of Music: Maria
Chicago: Razzle Dazzle
Westside Story: America
Once More With Feeling: Something to Sing About
Annie: Little Girls
I could go on and on…
@tiny…love West Side Story! Also just remembered 42nd Street (the avenue I’m takin’ you to).
I like the songs from Avenue Q. They are kind of different and fun. “The Internet is for Porn” “If you are Gay” etc etc. But I really have very little experience in songs from musicals or musicals in general so I wouldn’t know the really good ones…
@PnL; I love the songs from Avenue Q! The same friend who was in Tommy got me and my friends into them… [he’s a musical freak.]
oh yay! then i am not completely out of the “good songs from musicals” circle :)
@PnL; Of course not! Those songs are inventive and absolutely hilarious…I would love to actually see the musical at some point in time.
I saw Avenue Q… even better than just the music.
Anything from Stephen Sondheim’s A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC. If I have to pick, I’d vote for “A Weekend in the Country, ” sung as a quintet.
And “I Never Do Anything Twice, ” also by Sondheim, from the movie, THE SEVEN PERCENT SOLUTION.
SWEET CHARITY; ” Big Spender.”
WEST SIDE STORY: “Officer Krupke
MY FAIR LADY; “You Did It”
“The Wizard and I” – Wicked
“Luck be a Lady” – Guys and Dolls
“Brush up Your Shakespeare” – Kiss Me Kate
“What’s the Story Morning Glory” Bye Bye Birdie
@super; good ones (except for the Wizard. I wasn’t crazy about that.)
“Good Morning, Baltimore,” from HAIRSPRAY.
@gail – i agree. hairspray has some good songs!
Hey Big Spender from ?
Sit Down You’re Rockin’ the Boat from Guys & Dolls (I think)
Oh, so hard to pick just a few! Here’s a few of my favorites:
“Luck Be a Lady” from Guys and Dolls (my favorite musical ever)
“Pinball Wizard” from Tommy
“Magic to Do” from Pippin (although, I love pretty much everything from Pippin)
“Songs for a New World” from Songs for a New World
“Because I Knew You” from Wicked
There’s so many more (can you tell I love musicals?), but I’ll leave it at that for now… =)
“America” from West Side Story and “Music of the Night” from Phantom of the Opera.
Porgy and Bess: Ain’t Necessarily So and/or Summertime
Hair: Age of Aquarius/Let the Sun Shine
Godspell: Day By Day
I Could Have Danced All Night- My Fair Lady (I love belting that song out in my best opera voice!)
Also From Grease: Summer Lovin’ and Hopelesssly Devoted…
And the Music Man: 76’ Trombones (I was
In the play in highschool! ;)
@TheHaight: I worked that play in middle school… lol… I actually got so sick of all the music from it. That is, until, I saw one of my husbands favorite actors, Robert Sean Leonard, on Broadway playing Harold. That, and watching Peter Griffin and the rest of the Family Guy cast doing Shipoopi in its entirety with the choreography… gold!!
@poof; haha! Good times. I eventually got sick of the music too, but miss the good times! :) that’s soo cool you were apart of the play! I was one of the “pick a little talk a little gossip ladies!” (mrs. Squires). I didn’t get to say much but it was a blast.
Does ‘Team America: World Police’ count as a musical?
@tupara – hahahhahahha. if it does, i love the main song from the movie… “America…fuck yeah!”
@PnL – me too. Too bad it’s uncannily accurate.
Trouble – The Music Man
Master of the house – Les Mis
Officer krpke – west side story
To dream the imossibl dream – don quihote
Please forgive my spelling. Am on iPod touch.
“Little Bird, Little Chaveleh,” from “Fiddler on the Roof.” It shows a side of Tevye you don’t see too much in the rest of the show.
