America is very large, and has many different types of climates, and cultures.
Where I live in South Carolina, there is lots of hunting. Many use Labrador Retrievers as a multi tool hunting dog.
But dogs in general are very popular here. Many people have more than one.
I had to do some pretty advanced searches on google. We are talking Boolean and if and or stuff.
I got this…
“TODAY’s puppy Wrangler, a Labrador retriever, is the most popular breed in the United States for the 24th straight year, according to the American Kennel Club. ”
Over time it has mostly been the golden retriever
@johnpowell has it for most popular breed among those who select a purebred.
But the most common type of dog, by far, is the American Mutt.
I personally know more dogs that are at least part “pit bull” (being the group of breeds including the American Pit Bull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier, and Staffordshire Bull Terrier)
My own dog is, we think, part miniature Staffordshire (though we’ll never be sure, and the Humane Society gave me paperwork that says Basset Hound, so if you’re my landlord, he’s totally a basset hound).
Usually it’s whatever type of dog wins Best in Show at Westminster. This year it was one of my very favorites, the German shorthaired pointer.
Nationwide I would guess a Lab but around here we have an abundance of “Central Texas Gutter Hounds”.
It changes over time and by area.
Where I live, pit bulls have been big 10 or 15 years I know that is not one specific thing, you know what I mean).
Pugs are very popular right now.
Yorkies and little poodles are always common in high-rise neighborhoods.
Before pit bulls, the popular “macho” dog was the rottwieiler. I haven’t seen one for a few years.
Chihuahuas were big just a few years ago, I think pugs took that niche.
I’d say Labs, Golden Retrievers with a huge glut of Pit Bll type breeds these days and an alarming amount of yappy little good for nothing Chihuahuas and various other annoying little toy breeds. haha
Yep, not a fan of neurotic little dogs at all.
Breed preference has changed a lot in the last 40 -50 years. used to be Cocker Spaniels, german Shepherds, Irish Setters in the 60’s and 70’s.
<——Boxer, because I say so.
^^^ I love Boxers, just no evil little yappy mutts. haha
@Call_Me_Jay Awww,,,she’s adorable! Your 2nd link doesn’t work though.
